The news said today that Hawthorn think Joel is worth pick #7 (they're setting a price - does that mean they think the deal is likely?), but it was reported that they'd probably have to accept whatever since we can pick him up in PSD.

Hook saying "I don't think Joel would go into the PSD - I don't think he'd do that to the club." made me laugh - sounded a lot like wishful thinking.

We need to put our price on pick 7. Is it worth Chad Morrison and Joel Smith or do we keep it for a good youngster. If Smith goes to the PSD then we lose morrison - no big loss if you ask me. Pick 7 should be kept for the likes of a tenace or bartel to be drafted.

I'd be happy if it was pick 23 that we traded for Smith. That would be a win for us.

Pick 23 for Smith or Pick 7 for Lekkas and Smith.

MM will play tough and give them the take it or leave it.

Pies are very well placed with C3, draft picks and pick 4 in the PSD.

Pies will only trade - if the price is right.

I say do it. I reckon smith is a much better version of Glenn Freeborn and I reckon he was vital for us in 02.

Joel Smith has a history of walking on Clubs and going into the pre season draft, talk about John Hook being the pot calling the kettle black....How do they think he ended up at Hawthorn to begin with?

Regardless, both the Hawks and the Weagles, if they hold out for a juicy deal, will risk losing a player for nothing. The Weagles know they can hold out, but if we deal on Smith at 1.50pm then we get Morrison for free. Likewise the Hawks.

If we want Morrison, the Coolers will deal. If Smith wants Collingwood, the Hawks will deal.

It's nice to be holding a few cards for once!

I don't know whether anyone was listening to SEN this morning and I did miss the interview with John Hook. The feeling was that pick 7 was not up for the trade with Joel Smith and the morning glory team said as much.
They were basically saying that we would be keeping Pick 7 for the draft.

I suspect that Hawthorn will be in the position we were with Nick Davis and take whatever is offered. Pick 23 would be more than adequate but I wouldn't be giving a player also with the 2nd round pick.

I guess we will all be the wiser in just over 4 hours time....

Collingwood have definetly pull pick 7 of the table according to 3AW and to a lesser extent SEN but still you never know.

I have a feeling it will be a straight swap of Whitnall for Smith. Both clubs overrate the players and no other sides will pay (in trades) what they think they're worth. Perfect swap for each other.

Agreed Scotto, I would have pissed off as well. However, Hawthorn refused to trade with St.Kilda on the basis they had a high pick in the PSD and knew that Smith would end up with them, how's that different to this year?

Not a good option for the Hawks as Whitnall's salary in 2005 is $500k and they don't want to carry that.

Blues are trying to offload - and the contract is what scared the Saints off.

The way things are going it's bloody identical. But I guess the difference will be that the pies will actually be nice and compensate the hawks which in reality probably does'nt need to happen if we can get him in the PSD.

I guess the reality is that if we do give them a pick for him, it shows we have someone else tabbed for the PSD.
