Grundy was one of our best players, but it's too much to ask him to ruck pretty much alone for whole games. Witts must come back in next week to give us 2 proper ruckmen, and allow White to concentrate solely on being a key forward.

We are going to Lose/Break Even in the Ruck for another 3 or so Seasons unless we Recruit a Mature Age Ruckman in that Time.

Though Seeing how we Recruit I highly doubt we will

Glad I chose to go to Vic park instead of docklands. I had a great day at the footy!

Well said DTM. When we got Jolly we won a flag. We need a big hit out ruck man right now or at least a versatile tall man like Luke Breuster at Hawthorn. He can play ruck and forward. How come we keep missing out on these? Something missing here.

The Old Corio has kicked in early today, hasn't it?

Three big defeats for home teams against interstaters this round.

So, who's worse: Collingwood, Geelong or Port?

And who's better: Sydney, Freo or Adelaide?

Have these games had an impact on where we view any of these teams? I think Port will be ok but that the transition from exciting young team to genuine challenger won't be as inevitable as some thought. The Cats, to me, are on a downward trend, they're not contenders anymore despite their attempts to remain so. The Pies, as expected have taken another step backwards, this had to be the case with longtime first teamers Lumumba and Beams being moved on, finals look a remote possibility.

On the other side of the coin, Sydney will obviously be right up there again and Freo don't look to have lost anything from last season. Adelaide are the interesting one. I think they're the only team that can genuinely challenge Sydney and Hawthorn (Freo and Port lack the firepower). They have the strength, experience and scoring power and by the end of the season I expect our loss on Saturday actually looks meritorious.

Essendon doing well so far.

Regardless of today's result I've always had a suspicion that Hird can coach.

Probably why I wanted him sacked.

Me too. Which makes what they did all the more baffling.

Honestly Roar, I will be doing a bit of this myself again this year. I try to get to both matches but, over the past few years have got much more enjoyment watching the Scoobs than the firsts.

Having said that, I really hope that Scharenberg and Marsh make it because they will be a treat to watch on the the big stage. I loved watching the grass catch fire under Marsh's feet when he took off from half back at Victory Park last year.

You always need the right coach in place though to get the full potential out of a list otherwise it wont occur and you will be serial underachievers.

Very unwise to think young players becoming older will naturally mean we will become a finals force once again.

What's more unwise is to question the ability of a coach while ignoring the impact of youth and inexperienced on the performance of the team.

When they win 10 in a row as we did in 2013 or are 8-3 as we were last year ( before being crippled by injury) then I'll concede they are approaching Buckleys competence.

Cloke is our biggest concern, I'd drop him TBH, he's stunk it up for long enough, and I don't buy into the "who's going to replace him" crap, for the amount of opportunities we give him our return is pathetic, and he's $£$%^%%$ dumb, as dumb as they come, every part of his game is so predictable.

I think its time we rolled the dice with young Darcy Moore, up forward, I recall Len Thompson played his first game, a final, at only 17, reckon its time we gave this kid a run, and give clokey a run on the wing, further up the ground. Idea

I think it's time to call a spade a spade, send him to the VFL and play him at CHB for 6 weeks, his days as a forward are over IMO.

Is too big to turn around, would be like a more useless Firrito (and that's saying something).
