The Stephenson and Beams issues haven’t helped. That’s not an excuse, it’s a fact.

I just want our mids to start dominating with Grundy. What the hell is going on there, we’re down the bottom of the clearances ladder. Around the ground we’re ok though. Is this because we’re playing in low scoring, high defensive games? I know the opposition are getting away with blocks and holds (I’ve had the binoculars on our mids for this), but that’s not all. Remember a few games last year when Grundy and Sidey absolutely smashed it.

Was reading an article yesterday on running distances covered by all teams in the comp. We're ranked 15th in total distance covered to date.
Does this mean we're not working hard enough?

Fremantle are 4th on this list and hurt us on the rebound.
North are 8th
Eagles and Cats are also rated higher than us.
Carlton who nearly beat us are rated highly as well.

Do we need more run?

That’s a really surprising stat. I’d have thought Sidey and Phillips together would have kept us in the top four for running distance.

That's a stat of worthiness.

Apart from the obvious excitement of IQ debuting and having Elliot back, a huge IN for us is Aish.
He's having a great year. His marking ability and hardness was missing last week. Levi is a bad loss, but Aish back helps.

I’ve always been an Aish fan and as I’ve said wanted him instead of Shaz
Then I saw for myself that Shaz was a great get

Now I’m a happy man with Aish and Shaz in our side —both 23 ,is and with minimal injuries and fulfilment of their talent will be great to watch over next decade

It could be a bi product of a poor work rate but a comparison against the same time last year would be more relevant.

The fact that Carlton, Freo and Kangas are all higher than us in that stat suggests it’s hardly a blueprint to success either.

There’s a term in footy called “ smart running “ where the best players have the ability to always maximise their return for effort.
A team full of “ smart runners “ won’t win any distance covered stat but they are very likely to win the game. Smart running usually comes with experience, so the older teams may cover a little less ground than the younger teams and still get the job done.

Having said that, there are other relevant work rate related stats that suggest we aren’t working as hard as this time last time year ( see Swoop42 thread - the 2019 game plan ) Some of those stats are damning enough without adding this one onto the list.

Yep, our work-rate and enthusiasm for the contest are just not at the same level as last year (to date anyway). It's a mental thing.

I'm not sure it makes much difference, but we have been playing with more talls this year - Moore, Reid and Roughead - so that may have contributed to a drop off in kms covered.
