Yet the total number of Australian Deaths since this whole thing started, is less than what the USA had yesterday for 1 day.

You sure? 7 day M.A. of deaths was 22 on Sept 4 2020, and 14 on September 29 2021.

Death as a proportion of cases is also way lower that Sept 2020.

Regardless, all we are being fed is fear. The world is opening up and after the initial spike, things seem to be settling down.

^ The moving 7-day average of daily new cases in Australia was 8 on 12 September 2020.

Hang on for a fun Victorian figure, by the way:

Who cares what the number was on 12 Sept? Why pick an arbitrary date?

"Part of life" seems to me to be doing a lot of work there. Yes, lethal viruses naturally occur, but, as we've shown, you can somewhat mitigate their spread and death toll through policy – and, on that front, the option could be as straightforward as opting for a 90% vaccination target (as I think Tasmania are aiming for before they permit interstate visitors) instead of 80%, for instance. Or tying it to a percentage and a decline in case numbers.

So while eradication may currently be an impossible target – or, at least, require enforcement that no government or populace can tolerate – there is the possibility of persisting with a harm minimisation approach. Relaxing restrictions in the coming weeks with rampant outbreaks in the two biggest states and 20–30% of the population unvaccinated, on the other hand, very much seems a choice, and a choice that will have pretty clear consequences.

Of course it's a choice, almost everything is. The governments had choices and they chose to not take the necessary steps to keep the virus out, and they also chose not to hurry with the vaccine rollout, which leaves us with where we are now: more lockdown or more deaths, and the former can't happen as people simply cannot do it anymore.

of the people i personally know carrying on like pork chops about lockdown, its people who refuse to get vaccinated. and at least 50% have either smoked carcinogens in the past, or still do, taken drugs, or drunk like fish! but get that tiny 1ml away from me!! $£$%^%%$ idiots.selfish idiots.

I don't know how useful this "highlights" data is, but it may be of interest. This is from the ABC blog:

Quote:
Victorian Department of Health deputy secretary Naomi Bromley has just provided a breakdown of some of the state’s 1143 new cases.

Here’s what we know so far:

There are hundreds in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, including 243 in Hume, 83 in Whittlesea, 49 in Moreland, 21 in Darebin, and 24 in Yarra;
In the west, cases in areas including 55 in Melton, 54 in Wyndham, 70 in Brimbank, 23 in Hobsons Bay, and 37 in the Moonee Valley;
In the south east, there are 41 in Casey and 25 in Greater Dandenong;
In the east, there are 11 in Knox and nine in the Yarra Ranges;
Sixty-two in regional Victoria, including 12 in Mitchell (eight known close contacts), 12 in Shepparton (seven known contacts), and six in Moorabool.

No presser in NSW, today. This is probably not connected: https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/independent-commission-against-corruption-announces-investigation-into-nsw-premier-20211001-p58we9.html

my daughters house in in Truganina, right around the corner from a testing station, neither of us has seem more than maybe 20-30 people waiting, usually its about 5-10. the 2 times ive been tested i waited behind 2 people and then about 10. makes me wonder how many people are not getting tested. 2 of the fucktards protestors are in hospital, how many are not sick enough for hospital but infectious?

scary, i just dont trust everyone to do the right thing

Nah you can explain why you like picking arbitrary dates. 12 Sept, start of summer, 1 January.
