but Greg aren't a lot of your Muslims bigots? I mean not just a few but a LOT? Last time I checked, they weren't exactly that friendly towards Jewish people.

I noticed a lot of Christians in Germany werent very friendly towards 6 million Jews.

The Middle East problem isnt as simplistic as you portray it.

Further, the violence there transcends religious lines as there are many Arabs including Lebanese who are Chistians who are anti-Israeli because it is their view that the Israelis have stolen their land.

Both sides are wrong in that matter but it is something that is much more complex.

And are you going to tell em there are no Christian bigots?

As for me, I have worked for Jewish firms in the past and a large part of my clientele is Jewish. I have no ill feelings towards them and whats more, they know my background and have no ill feelings towards me.

I am not calling you a bigot, but nuxta and Dale 61 and a few others certainly are.

of course there are many christian bigots. I think though that the hatred towards Jews is more than just the state of Israel. A lot of them really, really hate Jews. An example is the Mohammed cartoons, the response was to publish anti-semitic cartoons. And the radicals always go on about the USA being run by Jews, whatever that's supposed to mean. Of course Christians have been equally cruel to Jews in the past (eg the deportations from England, behaviour towards Jews during the crusades, and the holocaust, although I would have thought the Nazis were more secular than christian). The fact is though that, even if there is some anti-semitism hovering around Christian areas today, it is nowhere near as marked or obvious than the radical Islamists.

that troubles me a bit, because I don't believe in God, but I really do try to do the right thing, and treat other people with respect... But surely if he's anything like the christian god, he'd have to turn me away because I rejected him.

Magpie Greg is now a self-appointed expert on all matters regarding the Roman Catholic Church? Whether or not Cardinal Pell becomes a future Pope is NOT a matter of your opinion. Popes are elected by the College of Cardinals. And for your information, the present Pope - when he was Cardinal Ratzinger - once described Islam as a "defective religion" (his words not mine).

If the Roman Catholic Church ever decides to appoint future Popes by asking for your opinion, I'll take what you say seriously. In the meantime please stick to what you do best, whatever that might be.

So you lament the collapse of the Taliban and Saddam regimes, do you? And the oppression of the people of East Timor?

I'm glad you've shown your true colours.

Perhaps you could migrate to an Islamic country more to your liking. Iran? Saudi Arabia? Yemen? Sudan? Syria? Somalia? Lybia? Surely they beckon a man who shuns bigotry and seeks a liberatarian lifestyle.

It's a win-win situation for all of us.

Greg I don't understand. Are you saying it would have been right to allow Saddam to invade Kuwait? even if you don't care about the Kuwaitis or anything, petrol prices would be way worse, because Iraq would have so much control over oil. And they probably would have then taken Saudi Arabia or something. The way I see it the only war in recent times involving Australia that you could critiscise is the Iraq war, and there are legitimate views both for and against that. And don't forget the extremists attacked America before anything happened.

To all who have taken the time to read the posts both I and magpiegreg have exchanged I personally would like to apologize. After reading about little Sophie Delezio I am of the opinion none of this bickering serves any good purpose. No amount of back and forth is going to change either of our minds and I care not to argue anymore. Just for the record, I am no bigot as any of my multi-cultural friends and some of my nickster friends could tell you. As a born again christian I am not sorry for anything I have posted in some of these topics , but I am sorry for the way some were delivered. So God Bless all of you and even you magpiegreg. Im sorry you feel it required to besmirch me in your signature greg.............................Norm

Dave, how many Muslims do you personally know? And how many of them are actually bigots?

During the Spanish Inquisition, Muslim Ottoman Turks sent out a naval fleet to rescue persecuted Jews and settled them in the Balkans. They built Synagogues for them so they could practice their religion. Anyone who has visited the Balkans can see these synagogues today.

In the Holy Land, Mosques, Churches and Synagogues stand side by side and have done so for centuries, under the rule of the Ottoman Empire.

Anti-semitism or any other form of racism, fascism and bigotry is a western disease, there is no justification for it in Islam.

"O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things)"[49:13]

Guys...

All i can say is to PLEASE read behind the lines of the news articles you see and read in the newspapers and on TV every day. They overwhelmingly only show the muslims that fit the stereotypes. They have an agenda set to them by corporate interests that the average journalist has no power to control or influence.

If there was a news report every day or two about abortion clinic bombings, KKK actions, KKK propaganda, neo-Nazism, Timothy McVeigh, etc etc. I'm sure we would all have these huge negative perspectives on Christianity also.

None of us are really in any position to judge the Islamic faith and to do so based only on the biased media is completely foolish and bound to lead to conflict.

Read a critique of Samuel Huntington's theory of "Clash of Civilisations" for a decent exposition on the issue of 'inevitable conflict' between the West and Islam. To summarize the position of almost every academic who has read Huntington and confrontationalists of his ilk: "it's xenophobic, simplistic garbage"

Eyes open guys, we need discussions in order to reach some moderate, all-encompassing society, not attacks. MG try to be less confrontational. If you are trying to open people's minds you need to do it by positively challenging them, not by sliding into personal abuse and dismissing ignorance as stupidity. David from Canberra i suggest you get out there and look at a book such as "Islam in Australia" by sharam something (you can google it) or "Islam and the west: Perspectives from Australia" also by him and Amin Saikal (i think), again google it, it should be at your local university or normal library. In any case, Islam is hugely diverse and Muslim Australians have a VERY different faith then Muslims in Saudi Arabia or from Muslims in Indonesia or Malaysia or Northern Pakistan.

Just don't slip into stereotypes guys, they don't help anyone reach any sort of truth.
