Never. I rarely drink and if I do I never drive. Even if I know I am under .05. It is not worth it. I lost a good friend when I was sixteen. He was hit on his bike by a speeding drunk driver. It is all I need to remind what is the right thing to do.

I have, more than once. It's not something I'm particularly proud of, but I've never had any kind of accident, maybe because I was aware of how much I'd had to drink and took it extra careful. Or maybe I was just bloody lucky.

I don't drink - Can't see the Point

You are not drunk at .05. In fact I think most people would be surprised just how sober they are when they crash through the magical number.
And yes, I'll admit to being over the prescribed limit on more then one occasion.

Which is exactly why i was careful with the wording.

I have NEVER in my 22 years of driving drunk alcohol if I had my car with me.

If I didn't have my car then yes, I'd have a drink or 2, but never got drunk when out & about.

Yep. Probably heaps of times. But never once since I got caught.

Maybe that's why I allow young Heath a little bit of slack. In no way am I condoning what he did, but having been in that position myself I can assure you it's not something a normal, decent person wouldn't learn a lesson from.

Mine was a "typical" scenario about 8 years ago. Had been to a wedding, not eaten all day. Drank 6 champagnes in 8 hours. Was dropped back to my car in Richmond and decided to drive home to Northcote. Without a shadow of a lie, I absolutely felt fine to drive. Maybe the hardest bit to imagine is that I KNEW I'd driven many times before that much worse.

So, one booze bus later on Heidelberg Road I blew .121 and was suddenly a poster child for the TAC crying in the bus in my party dress.

Worst night of my life. Easily.

The shame, the embarrassment, the "what if's" that haunt me even still are enough to ensure I will never do that again.

So whilst not believing Heath should not be punished, I just try to imagine if all those feelings I had (and still have) were to be played out in the media and having to face all that.

Drink and drive, you're a bloody idiot. Like me and Heath. And I can guarantee what he;s feeling right now is a fair bit more than had he been suspended for a few weeks.

yeh true. when i did it wasnt close to being drunk but should definately have be over .05

i have ridden my bike back home on several occasions in complete darkness and piss drunk. each time its really amazing that i made it back home, plus my area in balwyn north is very hilly so many downhills.

its funny looking back at it because nothing ever happened, but one minor thing would have changed my life forever.

good on ya dave for not drinking Wink

Yes, more than likely, but that was back in the day when the limit was 0.08!

I have, when i was young and stupid. Would have only been a few times when we used to take it in turns to drive from frankston to/from the city on saturday nights.

Definitely not proud of it and I always think back and think what a d*&khead I was back in those days. I'm sure Heath will go through the same.

I was definitely over when driving to work the next day after the office xmas do back in 2000. I'd had 6 hours sleep, felt ok-ish, but I would've been in strife if tested.

As for driving to a party or a club and drinking, I'm very responsible. I'll have a few drinks over the course, but not enough to get me into trouble.
