Winning. I couldn't care less what players do in their own time. I pay my membership and attend games to watch them win.

I don't think I'd ever come away from a loss feeling good about it because I knew the boys had been to church that morning.

The only 'off-field' misdemeanors which concern me are those which negatively impact on our players on-field performance. I'm not interested in all the role model crap. My reason for being pissed off over this latest incident is that the players involved were damaging their ability to perform at their peak. It smacked of unprofessionalism. For this reason only, believe the club was entitled to suspend players for a couple of games. In this instance, however, I strongly believe the penalty has far exceeded the 'crime', and has damaged, if not destroyed, our team's whole season.

Agree on the role model comment. Couldn't give a flog whether they are viewed as saints or not. Also agree that the impact on their rehab/playing ability is important. Being able to trust your players and team mates is also crucial to performance in a team game though. On this basis I don't think the club was too harsh at all in the length of suspensions. As I've said elsewhere, to shit in your own nest like they did is unforgiveable in a team environment. You just don't do it.

This really isn't an either-or question. We can uphold the values, do all the right things, rebuild a positive culture of achievement, and win flags.

As my signature says, "Whatever it take to win a flag." But the fine print really says, "We owe it to everyone concerned with the club to uphold the values that made Collingwood what it was over the 116 years of our existence." More flags - yes! But to win them with respect - definitely!

That's the Collingwood I want.

yes but they will be back in a year or 2. the eagles are extremely different however, they had numerous players taking drugs on a regular basis, this is hardly a comparison, one guy did a stupid thing, the other guy is alan didak who for some reason everyone wants to hang out to dry.

If you are unable to understand why Didak is in trouble, then perhaps it is you who has a problem.
If what he did, is acceptable in your world, then you live in a very different place to most of society.

The whole point about zero tolerance is that it will hopefully lead to success on the field.

If didak gets traded at seasons end its because his personality type has a negative impact on other players at the club....look at Heath Shaw for God sake.

If we were winning premierships i couldn't give a fat rats about what players do in their personal lives. However, when these guys aren't performing to the best of their abilities on the field, the question needs to be asked about how their off field antics are impacting on their football.

Whoever said "Winning isn't everything, it's the way you play the game" was obviously a loser!

Cheers

The 1990 Premiership team were no angels. They were Bus Drivers at times.

Precisely.

And for the record I would also take a flag then some shame and bottom instead of no flag and being jolly good chaps everytime it was offered.

And in 1990 it was still acceptable to racially vilify opposition players.
Thankfully that changed too

Pretty even result so far, which doesn't surprise me reading through all the various threads.

nj, I take your point on being simplistic, it's something that was considered, I just wasn't quite sure on how to combine all the variables into a simple 'yes / no' poll.

argh, who I'm I kidding. It was getting late and in all honesty, I couldn't be stuffed. So sack me Twisted Evil
