I think in terms of list management we have to seriously ask ourselves firstly - can we win the premiership next year.

Do we owe it to the likes of Burns and Rocca to haveone more crack with them in the side. If not then let them go and build for the future. They are just taking up space. Let McCarthy and Dawes play instead. Find out if Stanley, Cook, Wellingham can build our midfield.

The only other benefit might be them staying to help the kids in terms of onfield development.

I'm a bit torn at the moment but I believe if we trade to improve the midfield and run with what we've got then all things are possible.

In other words I believe we can win the premiership next year.

Go pies!

Just because we can't win a premiership, does not mean we should tank.
We are still developing and will be for another 2 or 3 years, this does not mean we don't need a few older players. It's not like we have a geriatric list keeping the youngsters from playing.

Barring injury, or great reserves form, I don't think Dawes will play much next season. McCarthy and Wellingham will play some games if their form warrants it, but are unlikely to be permanent fixtures (Wellingham more likely to be than McCarthy).

As a geek that's had to handle all the DST changes we keep making for work, can I just ask that we leave the ****ing clocks alone for once?

Cheers Smile

Its not about tanking.

Its about winning the premiership as soon as we can. Does that mean sticking with the experience players or developing the kids sooner?

I have seen Collingwood hang on to players too long for loyalty reasons - for example after the 1990 grand final.

Another question. Burns has been a great player and has been good as captain but would we benefit from making someone like Pendles captain now?

A team can think it's window is open, only to get stricken by injuries, or have one or more other teams bolt from the pack.

It's very unlikely that the same 8 teams will contest finals next year. Some will slip and others outside will kick on.

All we can do is put ourselves in a position to contest finals and see what happens from there.

Very true mate. We can expect [hope] to see the Pink Ducks amd Eugene's Roos to fall away, as long as we don't go down with them.
We'll see how the Aints go without Harvey too.

One think i know for sure is we will be very competitive over the next 5 years atleast. The kids weve been able to blood (sometimes several at a time) and have actually been able to withstand the pressures has been very heartwarming.

Its rare to see a Magpie kid come in and actually fail.

In 2010 we will have these players in the 23-28 age group:

Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Dale Thomas, Harry O'Brien, Tyson Goldsack, Cameron Wood, Dane Swan, Heath Shaw, Nick Maxwell, Sean Rusling, Paul Medhurst, Josh Fraser.

In 2011 we will have these players in the 23-28 age group:

Marty Clarke, Scott Pendlebury, John Anthony, Chris Dawes, Nathan Brown, Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Dale Thomas, Harry O'Brien, Tyson Goldsack, Cameron Wood, Dane Swan, Heath Shaw, Nick Maxwell, Sean Rusling, Paul Medhurst, Josh Fraser, Brad Dick, Sharrod Wellingham, Jaxon Barham.

With the likes of McCarthy and Reid just behind, that's 22 in total if you include these two. In other words, from 2010 onwards, we are going to be a powerhouse on the field. I did give a bit of leway to a few of the older players (Fraser, Medhurst).

Our clock is dependant on 15 other clocks.

Geelongs' clock is at 12, and I can't see it moving much in the next 2 years.
Hawthorns' clock is at 11.55 and it will hit 12. Will hover in this area for next 3 years.
St Kildas' clock is at 4. They had their chance and blew it.
Western Bulldogs' clock is at 10. They really need a power forward or 2.
Sydneys' clock is at 4. They had their chance and took it. Rebuild time.
Carltons' clock is at 9. Another key forward and one or two key backmen, plus some extra depth is needed.
Richmonds' clock is at 8. Light on depth. Two of their best, Richo and Bowden are close to end.
Essendons' clock is at 7. They need some replacements for Lloyd, Lucas and Fletcher. The ones they have earmarked are very green.
Norths' clock is at 9. Can't see it moving much in the next few years.
Melbournes' clock is a sundial. A merger might come before the shadow reaches anywhere near its zenith.
Fremantles' clock is at 5 but really anything could happen with this mob.
Brisbanes' clock is at 8. Could see them challenging in 3 years time.
West Coasts' clock is at 6. Good kids coming thru.
Adelaides' clock is at 8. It will stay there for a few years.
Ports' clock is at 8. Some pretty good kids and some classy veterans.

Collingwoods' clock is at 10.

Bugger the clock. I just want to know why we're always the one's to get bundled out of finals. It never seems to be "our turn". And if that Carlscum win a flag before us, I can't honestly say what I'll do or to whom. Shocked

I reckon our clock is no later than 7pm
Until we are at 10pm we are not serious contenders
Still a couple of seasons away IMO
