^Right, you did say that, fair call. But I still reckon it was more about the intensity gap than the umpiring.

Got to ask, what was the cheating in the 2008 granny?

Rush Behinds, not cheating at the time but not in the spirit of the game

The rule was changed

Very well put and true in any sport.

Even at netball the teams without the skills will try anything to get the ball and it should be pulled up but isn't, and that's where the problems and shit fights start.

I found myself yelling at the Telly the other night a million times, " he hasn't got it".

The tunneling into the legs business has to stop. To many knee injuries already. It's damn dangerous.

Ditto the spear tackles, I think it was a cats player that did one the other night, someone is going to get a broken neck.

I find it really strange that if you just touch a guys back with your finger tips as he goes to mark, you get a penalty, but shove them in the kidneys with an elbow and that's fine.

One thing I did note from the cats game, at least the umps seem to be onto the cats ducking tactics. I saw two or three that on the past would have been picked up, but were let go. I really hate seeing that, it's truly a disgusting and dangerous way to play for a free. Do they practice it at training? Because so many do it, way more than in any other team.

Back to the umps, they get paid a damn good wage and should be better and more consistent than they are.

But then who would we pick on?

Funny you should mention the way the Hawks man the mark. It's not just this year but particularly in 2008 and 2009 when their zone was killing everyone, they would regularly steal between 1 & 2 metres on every mark and never did the umpires ping them.

Not much you can do about it. Umps didn't have any role in Friday nights game.... bad kicking and young legs did!

Call it the Dermott Brereton influence! Razz

Speaking of the Dermott influence. Did anybody see Darren Jolly push his way through the small huddle of Dawks players as the teams were getting ready for the opening bounce. Very funny Smile

Cheers

True not against the rules. But hardly against the spirit of the game as people have been walking the ball over the line for a century.
The change to the rules that this tactic forced is laughable anyway. Even in the 2008 granny they would hardly have had to do much different to be "legal". Just wait till the opponent is rushing at you and step over the line. Rule says that's ok.
Stupid rule!

Tom Lonergan and Zac Dawson are the masters of holding well before the ball arrives. Lonergan knew he could get away with murder in the grand final as the ump won't pay free kicks for the holding he does (wraps his arms around his opponent so he can't lead or get any space.

Yep.
Just like we did with rotations in 2010. Another rule the AFL introduced to try and nobble successful clubs.

too right it's damn dangerous.
a players knees are crucial to his playing future and should be protected the same wae the head now is.

saw the pre-tackling and was reminded of the geat Awk teams of the 80's and early 90's. back then it seemed as though every contested ball was an opportuity for them to throw their arms wide and stagger back as though they were being tackled by a grizzly bear.
our players can do sump-think about this, copy the olde hawks and don't pick-up the ball!
another think i'd like to see is the instigater of a fight (like Ballantyne) to have his part in it looked at as well.

Who do we blame?
i blame the AwFuL!
