I know sponsors play an important role but it does irk me somewhat that the Collingwood name and brand seems to always play second fiddle.

I hope for the day when it's the Collingwood centre with just an acknowledgement of our sponsors and not the other way around.

That's a laugh. I got rid of my holden because it was anything but high performing. Heap of crap.

Westpac I ditched as well as their customer service standards were low performing. Try queues in their Branches. All Aussie banks are greedy. We should not sell our soul to them. We shouldn't take their money for naming rights.

Great to see we are in bed with two crap companies who think by wasting money on sponsorships they can fool people into believing they are good at what they do?

Holden keep demanding Australian taxpayers give them handouts or else they will leave. Well piss off then I say. How dare they take taxpayer money from the working classes and then want to give it to Collingwood in exchange for naming rights. Tell them to go jump as well.

Am I just being prejudiced and judging a book by its cover?

I thought whatever title these guys supposedly use would match their physique. Somebody really athletic, lean, mean, fighting machine.

If I were looking for a personal trainer, I would make sure they looked "ripped" giving me confidence in "praying what they preach".

Good luck to Davoren I guess.

^Geez, forget his physique and his stints at lower-ranked clubs (mentioned by others elsewhere in the above), this is the attractive part of his resume:

A former national performance director at Triathlon Australia, Davoren was at the helm of a world leading program which yielded a then unprecedented medal haul during the 2008 Olympic Games, guiding Emma Snowsill and Emma Moffat to gold and bronze in the womens event.

The stints at lower-ranked clubs make sense when you've got a bloke applying his specialisation to a new setting. Recruiting like that is what can secure you a rising star.

That said, obviously only the interviewers have enough information on which to judge the bloke, but the things people choose to focus on for goodness' sake!

Come on IP. The Weapon and Dr Ageless have changed the thinking on picking a trainer and judging the book by its cover and moved it to the other extreme.
Any middle aged guy that is trying to look like a 20 something, tanned, toned, footballer is just a try hard bloke (like um Hird).

And never trust a sports scientist with a suit.

I recall being a student of Judo & Jui Jitsu too many years ago. My instructor became 10th Dan - the only one in Australia & who unfortunately like Lou Reed took a walk on the wild side although a few years ago.

He was shortish, overweight, had a huge gut like a pub drinker, no neck. When I was on the mat with him, you never realized you were thrown till you hit the mat! - such grace, light on his feet & moved like a proverbial butterfly with utter remarkable control (without force). For me it highlights the point you made about judging books by their cover.

I think Collingwood should employ me as the Low Performance Manager.

I'm eminently qualified

Interesting highly supportive comments from Brad Johnston regarding Bill Davoren. BJ on Fox link below thinks we're heading North in 2016 (FWIW) in terms of the ladder.

"....Johnson said the young Pies group would be fitter and more experienced heading into the season.

I know (high performance manager) Billy Davoren does a great job with their fitness stuff at Collingwood and its been a gradual build over a couple of years for him to get their bodies to where hed like them to be, Johnson said.."

So youd think after another pre-season under his guidance and he is brilliant, speaking from first-hand experience that hell have this group ticking along that they will be able to successfully get through a home and away season with a lot more competitive games than what we saw towards the end of 2015....

Only because a few idiots here blame him for every bloody football injury Collingwood players sustain on the field. Senseless drivel.
