Hmmm ... I thought so. Guilty as sin. (I don't pay much attention to the UK IT news, but I thought I remembered seeing stuff like that below in the technical press, all of which I turned up inside two minutes of searching for it.)

Oh, I think a lot of this stuff has been tidied up in recent years as campaigners reacted to Snowden. But DTM's post was about the present proposal(s).

As regards the general issue, I'm comfortable with it being relatively straight forward for the government to conduct rule-based cyber-surveillance, subject to vetting by an independent monitor. It already does that routinely, by the way, with my bank accounts to collect and inspect taxes. I don't see the Left hyperventilating about that.

The British government, as far as i can see, does not want to kill my children. In fact, it seems to want to stop those who would. So I'm prepared to give it powers that'll help it do that, with some checks and balances and reportage.
