So you're saying we got Boyd for peanuts? Even better news.

What coaching experience does he bring to a Club that has failed badly for five years? I am predicting more mediocre years ahead with a Club that doesn't get it! Mark my words, the culture is very wrong at Collingwood and it is not one individual that is the problem or solution. A very boring Club these days ! Bring back Mick Malthouse before it is too late. At least he can relate to a time when footballers and coaches didn't live in multi million dollar mansions and they played for their next feed! We need a big dose of good old rugged toughness and not a pin stripe suit culture of soft millionaires.

Hodge would be a good get, hopefully sparking a coaching "spill", but if they hire another couple of "mates" of Bucks or McGuire I'll friggin' sue!

Hopefully there are more announcements of experienced and well credentialed assistants.

Just a reminder to a couple negative posts.
He comes to Collingwood as a development coach, not an assistant coach.
There is a big difference.
I wouldn't mind being " developed " by a three times all Australian, three times club best and fairest, former club captain and a premiership player.
Rookie elevation too. He has done it the hard way.

Unlike others on this board, I would much prefer Boyd over Hodge. Much better character. Don't want Hodge teaching ours to be snipers.

Actually I agree with you. too many times I've said let the bastards run home, even from interstate. For a few years. But towards the end of the season they did look like they were trying. I hope they all come back very hungry for success, and not just to earn a living.

IF this guy coaches as well as he played, it's a huge win for us.
He was a super player, played in a number of positions ( later in his career ) and really embraced the team first ethic. He and Murphy have long been considered the glue to the dogs list over the years.

Now watch this space for Crows assistant, David Teague.

Buckley could play a bit too (or so i'm told).

20c in my day old fella!

You could pick that up in shrapnel after the game around the boundary cos the cheer squad had walked around earlier with a blanket raising funds. Might have copped a few in the back of the head earlier too! Wouldn't happen these days. Bloody OHS nanny state!

Just because someone was a good player doesnt mean they will be a good coach. Havent we learnt that yet?
He might be a great coach, he might be terrible ... noone knows yet.

How does one know if Boyd will be a good coach --try him

We took a bloke who finished his playing career at Hawthorn in 1985 and came as an unknown quantity at coaching in 1986

Before season was out he was in charge and we know how that went
