So... The vows of youth are not to be taken too seriously.

He said exactly that!

Spot on!

Only played 7 games and has a career high of 3 goals in a game. Mccreery, Henry & Ginnivan have each kicked three goals in a game as well.

It’s a rumour people, that’s all.

However, he is exactly the type we need.

We attempted to trade our way to a higher position in an effort to get him during the Treloar/Stevo fiasco.

So many angry Pies fans here.

The real story is, he was looking forward to Darcy Moore coming to Sydney, because he knows Darcy has him covered and will continue to towell him up for years to come. But when he found out Darcy was going to stay at Collingwood, he figured the best way to avoid getting humiliated by Darcy everytime Sydney played Collingwood is to come play for us. That's why the rumours about him coming to Collingwood started circulating immediately after it was announced Darcy's new contract with the Pies is all but done. You know it makes sense.

Same.

Hope there's some truth to it.

I think you’ll find we were more than “ Linked “with Tony Lockett. He was at Vic Park , training, ready to sign on when one of the heirarchy and out on the ground and said they’d changed their minds. Pack up your gear and leave.

Still didn't get him

The board decided a young Sav Rocca would do the job. Plugger went to Sydney (Richmond were also keen) and both retired without a flag

At the same time, Collingwood sacked Daicos, replaced him with Steven Ryan, recruited an aging Brereton then replaced Matthews with Shaw and we missed finals for 7 years in a row

Swans went from Spooners in 1994 to 12th in 1995 (Pluggers first season there). Of course in his second season (1996), they made the GF. (His former team made the GF in '97).

One of the biggest balls ups in Collingwood history.

As Rd10.1998 said, we sacked Daicos the year before, recruited Brereton, sacked Leigh Matthews and missed finals for the next 7 years. You gotta think when you look at that team that lost to WCE in '94... Shaw and Daicos would still retire, Pert would still retire in 1995, but you add Lockett and hold on to Paul Williams and Jason McCartney, keep Matthews as coach, maybe coax Osbourne hear a few years earlier... How different our history could be.

Off the top of my head, how does this look: (1995-1999ish team)

B: Shane Watson, Jason McCartney, Shane Kerrison
HB: Andrew Schauble, Craig Kelly, Scott Burns
C: Darren Millane, Richard Osbourne, Graham Wright
HF: Scott Russell, Sav Rocca, Paul Williams
F: Gavin Brown, Tony Lockett, Gavin Crosisca
Foll: Damian Monkhorst, Michael McGuane, Tony Francis
Int: Stephen Patterson, Scott Crow, Alex McDonald, Alan Richardson.
Coach: Leigh Matthews

Oh and Nathan Buckley.

Do we still sign Dermie for a year in '95? Do we still trade for Anthony Rocca in '97? Would we still move Sav along in 2001? Do we still go after Scott Cummings in '02? Do we still go for Woewodin in '03? Where would Malthouse end up? What happens to the Lions without Matthews? It's also worth noting that we came close to getting Gavin Wanganeen right after we won the flag in 1990.

Upcoming players coming in from 95-2003: Simon Prestigiacomo, Lee Walker (without the knee injuries), Mal Michael (without the trade to Brisbane), Chris Tarrant, Paul Licuria, Nick Davis (without the trade to Sydney), Tarkyn Lockyer, Heath Scotland (without the trade to Carlton), Shane O'Bree, Leon Davis, Josh Fraser, Ben Johnson, James Clement, Alan Didak, Shane Wakelin... and although not mega stars, Rupert Betheras, Jason Cloke, Mark McGough and Brodie Holland come along in this time. Dane Swan plays his first game in 2003.

Obviously ladder positions and draft selections would change and make it impossible to look at who we could really have drafted (Fraser in '99 for example), but it's always interesting to look back. But when I do I always think we're the Collingwould Football Club.

Daicos was retired before 1994.

Brereton was a great get - he was physically finished as a footballer before he arrived. He couldn't run, he couldn't jump and he couldn't bend down - but what he did have was an extraordinary competitive spirit. He almost dragged that 1995 team to the finals on his back. It's funny that sort of determination doesn't rub off. Also, in that 1995 season, he played more high-quality KPF games than any alleged KPF we recruited during the last decade's clown administration.
