It's a myth. I was at the G when they played Melbourne, they should have won but for a few brain fades in the last 10 minutes.

They'll win their prelim easily and make the GF.

Pies V Lions. Nice collect for betting on that outcome a month ago to give me some spending money on our trip over. Cool

Actually last time we played them at Marvel we had key players out missing.

Let’s count chickens after we knock off who wins next week
Blue baggers or Power

I’d give AFL Orange a good chance to cut a path thru Port

The other semi Melb by a smiggin

There is a reason we beat the Dees - and that's without Nick . . .

They have a very ordinary forward line - great from the center back but that forward line is ordinary.

You have to kick a winning score.

For mine, it’s the ground size ( rather than any travel factor ) that reduces their effectiveness at the G. They’re very intimidating forward of centre with the best small forwards in the game. They don’t just have defensive small forwards, they have four serious crumbing ( and marking ) goal kicking options. Smaller grounds allow for deeper entries and their multiple options get their shots on goal from deep in their own F50. Defence has very little time to set up and even the extra has little time to get back there and help out. Setting up defensively is an easier proposition on the G than it is on Marvel and that will help us ( assuming both teams were to make it ) It all starts at the source, so the challenge is to not allow them any clean ball out of the middle and to block them from coming out through the front of the stoppage. You have to make them go backwards before they go forwards. Neither team are there yet but both are clearly the favourites to be there on the day.

If things go as expected they will have to waste a player holding Nick to a reasonable contribution rather than allowing him to run free.

We beat them with probably 5 players having off days and without Nick.

The rematch will be a VERY different game.

For what it's worth:

GWS will beat Port
Melbourne will thrash Carlton

Brisbane will lose to Melbourne
Pies should beat GWS

Pies will play another close GF with the Dees- If Maynard is out and Nick Daicos is in, we probably squeak a win...Probably being the operative word...

They play Marvel well dont forget.

It suits their game style.

MCG is thier krptonight they dont handle the wide spaces well.

Saying that they did win flags on the mcg 2001-2003.

But its not 2003 its 2023 and a whole new team.

Still think its a Pies Lions GF.

MCG.

AS I said in the other thread, Brisvegas under Granpa Fagan are a 6-7 goals better team at the Gabbatoir, they love those hick John Denver oldies tunes after each goal ther too. Nobody wins there, nobody. ever. At Marvel, with a depleted team, at a ground we dont play well, we still booted 15 goals against them. They cannot handle the MCG at all, they shit the nest, and honestly they are not a patch on the awesome Lions team of early 2000s, the three peat, that had myriad of stars, Acker, Black, Voss, Scott Bros, Lynch, Johnston, Jonno Brown, Michael, even our own Fly, back then. ON the big MCG, with us a fully fit, heathy team, Naicos in, with the Magpie Army roaring our boys on, we can get the job done, for sure. Surprised Very Happy

The Bears are a very good side and will make the GF.

We are a better side and will beat them in the GF.

I think it’s more about match-ups than venues. I believe the lions have beaten us 5 of the last 6 times we’ve played? They’ll fancy themselves, especially after the Round 23 result.

I don’t put too much credence into that result though. As per Leigh Matthews, we went into that game without Darcy and Daicos, and having stitched up a home final. Howe played forward and we lost Murphy early. If that was a must win game for us you’d think we would’ve sent Howe straight back. But we didn’t. The coaches were clearly looking at a few things and we had earned the right to be a little experimental.

Ultimately the Lions are a lesser side away from the Gabba. Should we meet them on the day I reckon we go in ever so slight favourites

I know we lost to them at Marvel, but why give them a run on the G?

We just need to win our next game & then focus on what’ll come next.

2 more wins, just 8qtrs of football left fellas.

We have done nothing yet but make the prelim, we can talk about the GF after we win a prelim.

Our prelim side should have Maynard with N. Daicos back, probably our best line-up in 2023.

Collingwood supporters should know more than anyone, one week at a time in finals.

One week at a time.

None of the last 5 we have to face are a push over -or as the song says

Just front up to who gets served up

I dont put too much faith in assumptions based on past events when it comes to Grand Finals.

Brisbane are a very good side and will be fully pumped if they make the Grand Final to play us. They play a 100 minutes of football and they put Port away quite easily in the last quarter. We played a quarter and a half and struggled to get the ball past the half way mark in the last quarter. I think we can win but we need to be turned on for 100 minutes. If we arent its goodbye premiership in 2023.
