You can only appeal on the grounds of some fault in law in the way the case was conducted. There's no automatic right to appeal. He'd be very lucky to avoid gaol, given being found guilty of GBH. This is a serious conviction.

Marley did the wrong thing and whatever sentence he receives should just be accepted.

Personally I'm sick of hearing about bullshit, stupid, drunken violence like this inflicted upon one another by immature men who should fukking well know better.

The Thomas Kelly and Daniel Christie deaths are tragedies that should be catalysts of change in how we as a society punish the actions that lead to them. The inadequate sentence Kelly's killer received rightfully outraged Australia and hoping Williams receives a slap on the wrist for causing a serious injury (that could've been even worse) just because he plays for us and might miss some games would be a total cop out.

Lets hope the club sticks by him whatever the sentence is and that Marley himself learns from this. No matter what , what he did as a highly trained, fit and strong athlete could've turned out a whole lot worse.

I don't think we've often been on the same page, but these are my thoughts exactly. May justice be served... but I hope that it isn't the end of Williams's career. Obviously a jail term would throw a spanner in the works, but if he is fit, willing and in the right state of mind upon release, then hopefully he'll take the field for us once more. Would be a shame for his talent to be wasted.

First offence, not life threatening injury and injury (jaw) is expected to heal 100%, most likely will receive a 12 month sentence suspended for 2 years.

That was gonna be my exact question.. Does this guilty decision mean an automatic prison sentence? It said his family began weeping, that sounds like prison time to me but I know absolutely nothing about these sorts of matters. Marley is named to play sat in wang surely that's impossible.

I'm not sure but I have a feeling that it doesn't mean it's an automatic prison sentence! He might receive a suspended sentence.

Surely his good work in the community in recent times has to be taken into account when he's being sentenced.

The club MUST sack him tomorrow. I will not renew my membership if they support a thug playing for our great club.

What goes in his favour is that he has no priors, the injury sustained will heal fully, there was an element of provocation in the offence, and since the assault Marley hasn't committed any further violent acts.
What goes against him is that he followed the victim outside and broke his jaw, and he pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Perhaps they should sack Swan while they are at it.

He's not going to jail, relax, he'll get probation-community service but then he'll get slapped civilly, probably 50k or so.

Remember guys, the scumbag who king hit David Hookes walked.

If they locked up every 19 year old who threw a punch at a nightclub we'd need more space than Australia has, throwing only the one punch is in his favour.

Jail term isn't an option, suspended sentence-probation-community service are the options, I'm sure his victim will go him civilly though, 50k should suffice.

Remember the scumbag who king hit David hookes walked.

Either way not good for anyone involved. Whatever happens, let's hope Marley accepts his punishment and comes out a lot wiser. Side by Side
