Id suggest we will look to rookie him. You need to be delisted first to do so.

When you think about it though, it doesn't come to as much of a shock as you would first think.

With his size and speed in the modern game, his roll has been reduced to a ruck/resting forward. Throw in the addition of Jordan Roughead and our stocks are quite high here. Grundy, Cox and Roughead all sit before McLarty as it stands right now.

I think we would be making a mistake to assume he is competing for a spot against Moore, Dunn, Goldsack and Scharenberg. Even Magden was called upon before McLarty.

He is more likely competing with Max Lynch and I'm not sure how comfortable the club will be with two rucks on the rookie list.

I don't mind the idea. Rucks take time and in reality, these guys wont be in the conversation for senior selection unless we are in dire straights with injury or form in some cases they can be promoted to the senior list anyway.

He's no good. Delist

Disagree they made the wrong call that night. McLarty has shown a lot and could be handy down back for us.

We all have our own opinions on players and IMO Magden does not appear to have footy smarts needed for top competitive competition

McLarty to be compared would need to have played or go on to play an AFL game or two

If he is cut adrift in luie of Magden then I consider that a poor decision

Following players will be having a quiet beer tonight:

Jarryd Blair, Josh Daicos, Tyson Goldsack, Levi Greenwood, Kayle Kirby, Jack Madgen, Sam McLarty, Adam Oxley, Josh Smith.

I'm with Baz, I'm not sold on Madgen. Maybe give him another year in the Magoos, but he reminds me too much of Keeffe and a headless chook. I hope he proves me wrong.

Bold call on Daicos. I'm assuming that both he and C. Brown would be given 2019 to stake a claim.

Nah, I'm not saying these players should go. I should clarify I was only listing the unsigned players. But you'd think they would have sorted something out before trade period if there was no intention of trading them. Who knows.

Daicos is sitting on a two year contract extension. I've no idea what the holdup is over. However he won't be nervous. Think Greenwood has been offered a contract extension as well.

Adam Oxley was drafted in 2012.

Broomhead was selected in the same year as Grundy.

Let that sink in before deciding whether McLarty has been dudded.

It is beyond me why Oxley was recontracted last time.

I'm rather surprised at McLarty's delisting, given how it often takes big blokes a few years to develop. However, the way the game is these days, he may have been judged as just being too slow, or not having the requisite footy smarts to play at the top level. Overall, you'd have to back the club's judgement, but this was one reasonably top pick of ours which, in hindsight, was wasted.

All the others were expected. I hope Broomhead can fight his way back, but given our midfield depth, it is going to take a massive improvement from him, even if he gets a rookie spot with us, for him to get on our senior list again.

If anyone has seen confirmation of Madgen's status in 2019, please post a link.
