Yes, I was just looking at the afl.com.au article on Chris's son. It can be done, at least by Hawthorn. Sometimes it seems that Hawthorn can do things we cannot do. Surely they have to pay him out, at least. Maybe it goes in this year's cap, then...

Per Tom Browne:

Tyson Goldsack’s new contract has been slow going. Hungry for a flag I think he’ll play on. But it’ll be a modest deal, and could involve getting de listed and re listed as a rookie.

Miohcek has to be upgraded at some point before the start of the season - we will likely play him round one so might as well upgrade him post draft but pre season as it basically lets us use a pick for points without delisting another player. We also only have to have 38 players (I think that's still true?) on the senior list (MM please correct me if Im wrong) so could take 5 "live picks" to the draft, use all of them for points for Kelly / Quaynor / Abu and then have 38 (instead of 40) players on the senior list, with the ability to upgrade 2 more rookies at any time.

Is that still acceptable MM?

In fact if we upgrade Mihocek we only need to take Kelly and Quaynor (I think) but I doubt we'd upgrade Mihocek pre draft cause that limits our options (incase Ben King falls through to pick 93, for example Razz )

Not quite correct - there is no NEED to upgrade Mihocek. Cat A rookies can play seniors without upgrade since the new CBA. As Mihocek did last season.

Primary list is 38-40 and Cat A is 4-6, Primary plus Cat A is 44.

Depending on how the draft pans out we may upgrade Mihocek, but it isn't essential.

Also, the points picks don't disappear when used, the picks just get moved to the back of the draft if all points are exhausted and moved back to the relevant slot if a balance of points remains.

Requirement is 3 selections at the National Draft including rookie upgrades.

I'm not sure if a rookie upgrade counts if it is done post-draft though.

If anyone has seen confirmation of Madgen's status in 2019, please post a link.

All Cat B rookies are given 2 year contracts when signed up first time. Madgen is thus signed for 2019.

I’m not aware of any 2 year contract requirement for Cat B rookies, only National Draft draftees.

This Foxsports article suggests Madgen is out of contract this year: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-trade-contract-list-free-agents-verdict-on-every-out-of-contract-player-at-end-of-2018/news-story/fa31f2dcd98d7846ab02a13c6363c83d

I’m pretty sure Cat B rookies can be delisted after one year because we’ve done that ourselves in the past. Strange that Madgen is not being mentioned. He’ll get another year after he broke through for some senior games this year. I’m a bit more optimistic than most about him. Lack of inches isn’t his problem (didn’t help Schade). More his body positioning as a defender he needs to learn.

Did McLarty's hearing cause issues? I didn't get to see a lot of VFL, but I know the kid can play despite the aid.
