Hird still doesn't get it. This kid was born with a silver spoon in his mouth (he was Essendon royalty) and thinks he can get away with murder. Now he claims that he had nothing to do with running the football department. He was merely the coach. BS. Spare us the sniffles you pathetic spineless wanker Hird!!! Evil or Very Mad

'Blame everyone else' is Hird's mantra.

If he had nothing to do with the 'footy department' then isn't that a blight on his coaching career as it goes to show that Essendon's governance was appalling under his coaching tenure and there was a lack of communication and interaction amongst staff members at Windy Hill.

Any coach should know or be aware of what's going in the football department, especially in regards to how it concerns the players like it did here with them taking unknown substances by a sports scientist in Stephen Dank.

Clearly, the Bombers can’t afford to lose Thompson and, truth be known, Thompson doesn’t want to leave the Bombers.

He doesn’t, however, want to return to an assistant coaching role and to make the situation more complex, he can’t be head of football either because Neil Craig has that role.

So, what do with him?

Thompson and Hird would be open to the idea, for when they both returned to Essendon in 2011 it was a journey for both of them, together.

Hird was coach and Thompson was his adviser. Put it another way, Hird was Michael Corleone and Thompson was Tom Hagen, his consigliere. But in a plot weird enough for its own movie, Hird’s 12-month suspension meant Thompson had to become the head of the family.

It was a unique situation.

After today's headlines maybe we should ask Tony Abbott who is to blame. Most likely it was Labor.

NRL PLayers hit

http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/sharks-asada-case-cronulla-players-offered-backdated-oneyear-suspensions-deal-if-they-admit-to-taking-banned-substances/story-e6frf3uc-1227030586958
Quote:
ASADA boss Ben McDevitt last night signed-off on the 17 show cause notices, which signal their intent to charge those exposed to Cronulla’s 2011 supplement program.

Despite speculation that players could be offered reduced bans, the notices all raise the prospect of two-years on the sideline - the mandatory suspension for use of prohibited peptides, CJC-1295 and GHRP-6, which ASADA believes were part of the 2011 program.

The players have now been given 10 days to respond, and can elect to challenge the notices in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) or Federal Court.

Essendon players offered 6 months if they admit guilt.

ASADA chief executive Ben McDevitt is also willing to apply the 75 per cent discount which applies to all athletes who concede guilt and whose evidence leads to a doping infraction being issued against another person.

Quote:
AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan denies ASADA has offered Essendon players reduced six-month sanctions for their roles in the club's substance scandal.

With Cronulla NRL players due to accept or reject ASADA deals of a reduced ban on Friday, media reports also emerged that Essendon players had also been handed an offer of reduced six-month bans.

The report said ASADA had tabled the new offer to McLachlan, however, the AFL boss told the ABC's Gerard Whateley that he was unaware of any such offer.

He said he had spoken to ASADA chief executive Ben McDevitt on Friday morning after the media report had appeared.
Audio: Interview: Gillon McLachlan (ABC News)

"I know Ben has been out there talking about, that under the act, that his view is that substantial assistance and no fault negligence would broadly apply here and I think there has been discussions historically with him and the players' representatives," McLachlan said.

"But he has not tabled anything with me and to make sure I'm not going mad or I haven't checked my emails, I've just been speaking to him (McDevitt)."

McLachlan said he understood reduced bans for the Bombers players was something that could be considered.

"That's available under the act," he said.

"It's always been known and theoretically available in this case (Essendon), but it comes with the condition of a guilty plea."

I don't really understand how Essendon can claim that ASADA a body whose sole purpose is to investigate doping within sport somehow conducted an unlawful investigation in partnering with the AFL.

Surely the people who actually run the broader competition have the right to cooperate in any investigation into one of the teams within it.

Am I missing something?

NO.

Perhaps it's useful to point out Qldmagpie67 that costs follow the event in such proceedings - the loser is almost always ordered to pay other party's costs in such proceedings, so that wasn't a special or unusual order.
