Ok seems like we need a Nick-a-thon. Getting a magpies internet address doesn't cost much and helps Nicks too. Perhaps we could all start with this?
Or perhaps we need to start paying for this on a yearly basis?
Some of us come to Nick's for a bit of light relief and some, like me, come here as a way of connecting when we are far from home.
I'd be happy to pay a yearly subscription and will pay what I think is a reasonable fee. If I could be hoodwinked into paying for the AFL's Bigpond site that offered nothing but pain, Nick's is worth double that fee.
By the way, I also think we should have a Jack-a-thon as distinct from a jack-o-thon! This would involve donating a substantial amount to pay for Jack Spain's psychiatric treatment. I'm told shock treatment is still the only option for some poor buggers. 
Donations should be sent to the account of the new angry Tannin. New avatar has done nothing for the shit on the liver from Tannin this year. What gives Ballarat Boy?

You are obviously passionate (if not a little misdirected) about the Nick’s service and are clearly heavily involved in keeping it running, so maybe you can enlighten us all and tell us about all the things behind the scenes that get done to keep Nick’s online. I am interested to know and perhaps if we all knew what you deal with then maybe we could come up with ideas to help.
I am not an IT oriented person, I know nothing about web publishing and hosting, all I know is that 2 ½ hours of trying to get into a web page is frustrating. If this makes me a “tosser” or a “whinger” or a “knob” etc..then I guess my mother was right!

I've had dealings with him in the past and can tell you categorically that it's "his way or the highway".
Unfortunately he is close to the site owner, so be careful of how much you push him.
As I stated previously, just let him rant. Don't feed him. |

Sorry I haven't replied to this earlier, but I'm on the road and have been out of mobile reception for two days.
To those who have donated in the past, thank you - money aside, it makes a huge difference knowing that the site is valued enough for people to want to contribute. There are also those who contribute more time and energy than can be valued in dollars - the moderators and the people who contribute time and skill to maintaining the web site. To those people, the ones who actually keep this show on the road, thank you.
I haven't acknowledged donations in the past because I didn't want to start an "I donated" hierarchical mentality, but it's probably time that those who donate are publicly acknowledged and I'll put something in place to do that from now on.
To those who want to know details of costs and/or time that is put into to keeping Nicks up, I'm not prepared to discuss that - it's not the point. The amount you contribute is irrelevant, it's the act of putting in that counts. If you can't bring yourself to donate a few dollars, just do as Neil says, buy yourself an email address (see http://email.magpies.net) for $20 / year and get a meaningful address that will never change as well as helping out.
