We are the Collingwood Football Club; not the Collingwood Sports Club and certainly not the Collingwood Community Club.

All very well to do things for "the community" such as those Christmas lunches they do and certain initiatives to help out here or there - but to try and claim to be a community club is a bit rich.

Sunshine YCW, Preston RSL, Maribyrnong Park, Craigieburn, Albion, Deer Park, etc, etc, etc - are community clubs.

no one is claiming to be a "community club". one of the club's values is "community" which i believe has been incorrectly interpreted as such.

i don't see anything wrong with what the club is wanting to achieve even though i may not necessarily apportion any discretionary income to the other ventures.

late last night i heard eddie refer to the clubs as "community clubs" in his commentary about the next cba and the players' demands for a percentage of the revenue.

Absolutely insulting to actual community clubs and the people that run them.
I'm a McGuire man, but I'm not with him on this one.

It's great to have initiatives to service "the community",(whatever that means when your base is in big business central and you play out of a neutral venue).
But don't try and sell yourselves as something you no longer are.

When they open up the Holden Centre for Monday night Netball and Tuesday night Basketball, then I'll stand corrected.....

Collingwood Magpies is a football club - but we are so much more than that - we are ideally suited to expand the brand into other sports and endeavours… much more exciting than pubs or pokies anyway!

45000 today.
That is after 2 good wins and the Dogs up and about.
In terms of influence I reckon Collingwood is going backwards.
I remember the days when I booked tickets because I was worried about a lockout.
We have zero chance of any closure of the gate.

^ wouldn't that suggest and strengthen the need to identify alternative revenue sources?

the members and crowds will be back when we return to winning consistently. if they don't return then we're in a bit of trouble.

I don't think the crowds will be back.
It is partly due to us and partly due to the change in Aussie culture.

^ yeah. outside of team performance there's any number of reasons why people aren't going.

Poor crowd from both teams.
Excellent weather.
Maybe it was the 3-30 start on a Sunday.

It was still a bit cold. I was expected at least 50,000.
