Shit like this comes back & bites you on the ass big time sometimes.
Best just to stay quiet.

Last year, prior my daughters u18s Baseball GF, the opposition Coach did a massive write up on FB about how good their kids were & that our team was never gonna get close to beating them on the Sunday.
Someone from our Club saw that post, printed it out & gave a copy to all our kids.
Needless to say, we ended up winning that GF.
That Coaches write up spurred our kids on to win.

Bit sad for the Blues if they have to rely on an opposition Pres to fire them up, rather than their coach.

Such a non-issue

And Carlton are on the mend. They'll still finish bottom 3 or 4 but they aren't the weekly 10 goal loss basket case that they've been for most of the last 20 years. They won't play in a GF in the next couple of years. They will be flat out making finals before 2022. They have 1 game against us this year and wheeled out their class of '79 especially for us.

This is their grand final. They have become so bereft that round 8 is their game of the year (and still only get 70k to the game.)

They scrapped. They chased. They pressured. They did everything that an underdog could be expected to do, including running out of steam in the last. Plowman and Silvagni played their best games for their club. Cripps had no match up after Wills dropped out. They had goals kicked from right out of their arses.

We barely turned up. We were missing 2 of our best prime movers and our first choice full forward. We lacked run and constantly missed set shots we should have gobbled up. Yeah it was a little hairy towards the end but we applied ourselves for the last 5 minutes, kicked 5 goals and dressed up the scoreboard nicely.

Look. The AFL is run by a pack of drama queens. Almost all of the footy loving public really give a crap about 2 and a half hours of action on the weekend. Meanwhile the drama queens need to fill column inches and build their click count. Pies fans are habitual click-bait takers, as well as superstitious omen seekers and so they fall for the gossip, hook line and sinker. It must be the funniest gag for Slobbo and co...

"Well my lot aren't going so well. Think I'll make some Pies fans sook for a bit"

We didn't play well. Carlton played about as well as they could. They gave away 26 free kicks by going in too hard or trying to do too much. We wandered around at half rat pace for most of the afternoon, fumbling the pill and kicking like shite. But go look at the game day thread. Our fans were blaming the president for all this.

What McGuire said would not have made bugger all difference to the effort displayed by the Blues today. They were always going to step up.

P.S. If McGuire can get Carlton to want it with a few choice words, then maybe they should sack Bolton as he has not been able to get them to play with any heart for over 3 years now and install McGuire. You know... because professional players really respond to outside noise these days.

Some of you people don’t get it. It’s not simply the ‘ammunition’ for Carlton (although no one can say whether it has zero effect on the Blues’ squad.

Number one, it’s disrespectful to a contracted coach.
Number two, it’s disrespectful to the contest on the eve of a game vs said coach.
Number three, it puts unnecessary pressure on our own team, and can instil a ‘fear to fail’ mentality that NO ONE can prove or disprove.
Number four, it puts Eddie front and centre ahead of the actual team and club, and relegates Buckley and his team to second fiddle.

Simple solution: just be quiet and respectful.

What more needs to be said?

I'll agree with points 1 and 2. The rest, not so much. Even so, he is a commentator and he is allowed to talk about other teams. %$^$%^&%%, if Koch said anything about us, would we really give a stuff?

Besides, the histrionics has been around how Ed fired up Carlton by saying what everyone already knew. Carlton players probably couldn't give two ****s about it. Sure if they had have won they would have rubbed it in a bit but since that didn't happen, they would think he is just as big a windbag as they did 2 weeks ago.

Yes, we would. (Non-Port guys make vague comments about making their jumper black and white stripes and Nicksters go berko.) And Koch has harmed his club again and again with his big mouth. He almost lost the club Hinkley (to GC) with his stupid comments. (Whatever you think of Hinkley as coach, you don't want him walking out on the club because the president has put his foot in his mouth.) He is yet to realize that he knows nothing about footy. The problem is that in Koch's work life, the more stupid noise you make the better, and he doesn't realize that doesn't apply to footy presidents too.

Raw Hammer you make good points and I do get that. But...

Farking McGuire. You red-headed turnip. I could see what was coming as soon as he said it

Leaving side the red-head bit... So if he hadn't have said anything, we would have won by 10 goals instead of 3? Do you have an algorithm for that? Like, president comments is +5 goals to the oppo, supporter confidence is worth 2 goals? Is that how it works?

Or is it just that our supporter base is so scared of losing against the Scum that they seize any opportunity to reinforce their insecurity

Some people here like to talk about the psychology of the game, especially (but not only) the 'hubris' of the cakewalk - what about the psychology of negativity. Bucks himself said during the week that he "believes in belief". Maybe you Chicken Littles should try that for a change

At the end of the day, as a supporter, what's better than beating Carlton by 10 goals? Giving them a sniff and then kicking the last 5 goals of the game. I'll take that any week

You might. I couldn't care less what some numbnuts accountant-turned-morning TV host says about football, or anything else for that matter. He's a Kochhead who:

* Used ANZAC day (not the game, the Kokoda trail walk) as a platform to advertise his own TV show
* Published the name of a 14yo involved in a court case
* Delayed one of the Beaconsfield miners being transported to hospital so he could get an exclusive
* Told a tasteless joke about the then prime minister's wife
* Made anti-breastfeeding in public comments
* Said the Boston marathon bombing might be linked to the IRA, because you know, there are a lot of Irish people in Boston
* Implied the Mariners were slave traders over Bolt's transfer

Yes Ed has done some equally dumb things, but Koch has done nothing positive for his club, whereas EM has done a lot for the Pies

So, while you may think this idiot's comments are worthy of consideration, don't claim to speak for the rest of us

I'm starting to grow tired of him.

Maybe Buckley has had a quiet word with him about it. (He did two decades ago when he was captain and the president didn't know the difference between a president and a coach.)
