Scum (1979) d Alan Clarke. My umpteenth re-watch. Although it had been a few years since my last viewing. Great piece of gritty British realism, set in a borstal, and one of Ray Winstone's early roles. Ben Ford's portrayal of a character named Archer is also a highlight.

During the last week of winter olympics, we watched Cool Runnings and Eddie the Eagle.

Was disappointed to learn that both films are more than 95% fabricated.

Up in Toc for the weekend, The Dark Knight was on FTA.

Grabbed a Steak Sandwich and a couple of fried dimmies from the Foreshore Cafe and settled back with some beers and a bottle of red.

Christian Bale is the best Batman of the lot, and Heath Ledger was brilliant.

Speaking of which; did you know Stallone did a re-edit of Rocky IV last year?

Hard to track it down though...

Speaking of Stallone, I watched Demolition Man last night.

Interesting view into the future from 1998. Everything deemed bad for you has been banned. Salt, Meat, Tobacco, alcohol, physical contact (including sex) and crime largely eradicated. Drop into that mix a psycho killer and cop from 1998 and watch mayhem ensue.

Love it.

I just watched West Side story, the 2021 version.Steven Spielberg has done a fantastic job with his remake of the classic musical. The production values are first class and the music,as it was in the original, is to die for.I would highly recommend it,even if it is a little too long, like most movies today.

Just caught the Australian film Friends and Strangers at ACMI, where it's showing for the next few days. A really funny, subtle and well-made film – one of the best we've made in this country for a while, I reckon.

Here's the first instalment in a video essay I'm working on about representations of naked bodies in cinema (NSFW, obviously)

Any critical feedback welcome!

Sounded like you were channeling Richard Attenborough, i was half expecting a meerkat to pop up.

Wink

The content pretty much went over my head but that's fine, I'm not your target audience.

We've nearly gone full circle with nudity on mainstream media these days. It started here in the 70s with Number 96 and The Box , progressed through the 80s where just about every action flick would include a topless chick to now where it's considered exploitative to focus on a woman's body, but not a mans.

The lost daughter

Netflix has a section called the Oscar selection, movies that were nominated, I got a pocket dial phone call at three fuckingam , no idea who it was, but could hear sirens In The background, scared the shit out of me I’m tired as ****, soi made the very bad decision of watching a movie from the selection, and I stuck with It to the bitter end, so $£$%^%%$ bad, so depressing, and I have no idea what the fuckit was meant to be! The only thing it confirmed is the shitty behaviour of the natives on the European cruise we went on!

I’ve seen the cowboy movie on the list and also the stupid one with all the famous actors In It, before I knew they were onthe list.

The oscars really are not my genre!

Seen it plenty of times, but got sucked into Pulp Fiction on tv last night. Always a good one. But it took a while with a million ad breaks.
