I had a look at the list - but I couldn't really believe how many very-average films were on it, so I lost interest. It's kind of alienating that people who are supposed to do this for an alleged living could publish a list with the Shawshank Redemption at number 2. And, you know, I loved ET when I saw it at the movies - but it it isn't among the best 100,000 films ever made, let alone the best 100.

There's the odd token foreign film there, of course. But it's almost embarrassing that the list should include Yojimbo (one of the "go to" films for people who never watched much Kurosawa) but managed not to list massively greater works in the 50-year period - eg, Kagemusha which, in my respectful opinion is not just Kurosawa's greatest achievement but one of the top handful of all films ever made. And where is Dersu Uzala, Dodes(u)kaden, Mahanagar, Charulata, Distant Thunder, The Chess Players, Mandabi, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, Tristana? Have the people who made this list ever seen a good movie that wasn't made 6 blocks from them?

I'd be much more interested in other posters' lists than this one.

These IMDb lists are user-generated, and most likely reflect the viewing habits of (predominantly) English-speaking viewers. Here's a different list that is taken from various critics' polls:

https://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000_all1000films_table.php

And for an even more internationally themed (and somewhat offbeat) list, here's the top 250 from Letterboxd (a rival site to IMDb that is focused more on younger users):

It's actually good to have a much longer list - if you go to 1,000, you tend to eliminate a fair bit of the bias from the list (if not from the ordering). You can still put Kagemusha at 544 and Charulata at 466 - but you're less likely to display your ignorance and embarrass yourself by leaving them entirely out of your list.

Although, that said, I've realised they have listed A Better Tomorrow and The Killer there but not Hard Boiled or Bullet in the Head, not Armour of God or Police Story 3 and, ridiculously, not Carousel.

With greatest respect, his decision to stop acting is probably a few years overdue.

C'mon, the man was well past his prime, he's churned out something like 15 movies in the past 2 years or so, several not released yet but they're apparently all shite.

the Golden Raspberry Awards — the self-proclaimed “ugly cousin to the Oscars” that salutes “the worst of cinematic under-achievements” — has created a special category just for the “Die Hard” star: worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 movie.

They have 8 to choose from.

Harts war, Tears of the Sun. The jackal.

Watch the die hard series, he had epic comedic timing, his delivery of one liners is brilliant.

So so many actors sports people etc getting sick, looking frail - Phil Collins, I’m getting old and the reality is smacking me in the face.

I’m literally shattered, I’ve loved Bruce since Die Hard first came out. It was my first go to drunk movie, I can’t count the times I’ve watched it. And the second last one, I love that! The last boys scout! The expendables, I love them all. The Seige. He’s 67, he’s given me so much joy, I’m sad that this is his ending.

Shane Warne died how long ago, I wasn’t a fan, and yet I haven’t felt the need to stick the boot in, just sayin!

My three favourite all time movies to rewatch, Die Hard, Conair, and Under Seige!

Nothing like action, gorgeous men, and a little humour added in!
