We are still missing an important link in our Premiership team - a genuine star CHF. Hopefully, now that we've corrected our salary cap, we can go after one next year.

I have no doubt that is the plan and fixing the salary cap has enabled us to be players in the free agency market.

Wrighty is doing a great job.

Thanks DTM for posting Wrighty's post trade interview.

Interesting he said they weren't going to let Henry go, but something happened late in the piece around the Mitchell situation which changed the thinking.

Did I interpret this right? - maybe someone here can interpret better what he's saying with this.
I thought we'd been looking at Mitchell for ages?

Wright had said at the start of the trade period that gaining Mitchell was unlikely. It seems that Mitchell would've cost a lot more (in picks or $$) if Geelong didn't offer up their player as part of the Henry/Mitchell trade.

Hard to be disappointed.

Tall forward, tall backman, midfielder and quick small forward. Filled four needs.

We lost a ruckman (one of three) and an under-sized tall forward who was playing VFL.

This in a nut shell.
We got what we needed

^That could also just be negotiation by media.

Feels like a very 'money ball' type of trade period for the Pies.
I'm particularly interested to see if we can help Frampton realise his potential.

How did Jake write this with a straight face and avoid “cheating” and “rort”? Bold text

Normally, a team at the head of the ladder would not have the salary cap room to pull off the once-in-a-decade heist of recruiting Jack Bowes and pick seven in exchange for picking up a heavily back-loaded Gold Coast contract.

That they won the auction for Bowes was a measure of Geelong’s unmatched capacity to: a) pay players less than their rivals; and b) sell their wares to players. Bowes chose the Cats when he might have gone to Essendon or Hawthorn, clubs where one would think he would be more assured of a game.

True. As much as I hate the attitude towards the club that recruited and nurtured them, I have always said that Collingwood must have players who want to be there and are not biding their time to piss off to another club of their choice. We have done well. Now it’s up to the players to perform up to their potential and ability and deliver us the success we yearn for.

Just to add; Frampton - 2.00m tall & 90kg
McStay - 1.97m & 98kg

Exactly what is required. Could this be one of our best trade periods?

Will keep an eye on Fiorini. We were heavily linked to him and we pulled the pin. He has one year to go on his contract with the Suns.

Sam Hayes was a ruck we were linked to very early on. Noting eventuated here as the trade period began.

We got everyone else we wanted and were linked to. We improved our draft hand. We lost Grundy which we knew was coming (The contract is GONE!!) and we lost Henry which was unfortunate, but is it really a surprise to anyone?

Fiorini is an excellent VFL player. We already have players like him at Collingwood. Poulter is better than him in my opinion. Sam Hayes is a slow plodding ruckman. Why would we need him, apart from him being big? Frampton is also an excellent SANFL footballer, but unlike Fiorini, we don't have any of his type at Collingwood and at 25 his best football is ahead of him. Bobby Hill is the leg speed in our forward line we missed when Stephenson himself went missing (and finished at North). Mitchell is an out and out star at the center bounces. I don't think anybody is entitled to criticize his disposal given we have Adams in the side. We lose most of Grundy's contract enabling us to chase a genuine star next year. All in all you couldn't have wished for a better trade haul from this year. People are applauding Geelong for their trade haul - what they got is a player I don't rate (Bowes) who comes with a huge contract, an unproven player (Bruhn) and a sook (Henry) and lose one of their greatest ever players (Selwood).

It is possible 25 and Mitchell sealed the deal

But 25 and Fiorini may not have been enough.

Hence why Wright may have alluded to Mitchell changing the picture. It cleared the path for a decision.

I think when Mitchell became available, we didn't persevere with Fiorini because we got our onballer.

Yeah, looks like it.
Whilst I'm pissed off at Henry for wasting our time, I do recall that Anthony Rocca was always going to come to Collingwood. So you win some, you lose some.

On the plus side, I don't need to watch Henry lolling around, with his hands on his hips, in a Collingwood guernsey any longer.
