In Toovey Reid

Out Goldsack Egan

Would've preferred JA over Toovey

I would have preferred Anthony too, but Gavin Brown was glowing in his assessment of Toovey's VFL game last week, so it's not a surprizing decision. I'm not sold on Toovey, but I am hoping to be proved wrong. Go Tooves!

John Anthony would have to deadset ask what the f*ck he has to do to get a game. A key position defender goes out and he still can't get a game. Yes I was at scum park last week and Toovey was incredible, John Anthony (who can do everything toovey can but is much more assured in possession) was better. I can't figure it out at all, in this scenario I can't see a matchup were Toovey would easily be better suited than JA. I"m geniunly stumped on this one. And take in to account i'm a fan of tooves, there is a kid who gives his all and no doubt will on sunday, but John Anthony is more than ready I don't see the need to hold him back when a position opened up with Goldy missing.

Oh no not Toovey.
I am happy watching him play well in damp scrappy games like last week , but Toovey at AFL level creates stress and anger.

Yes, the goal certainly wasn't a fluke, he knows where the goals are and kicks like a mule. We are flying down to Melb on Sunday so hopefully he gets a run and the boys have a win.

Tooves has certainly staked a claim and we can not begrudge the lad another shot at the AFL. He was good last year and 3 majors in a debut is good by any standards. He was very nervous in that Richmond game and he will not be half as nervous this year. I think we will see a good game from Alan.

Jack and his family have been treated unfairly by the club here. If a player is named in the 25 and it is his debut game I say he MUST play.

Do not name debutants unless you are definitely going to play them.

Anyway, we will see Jack down at Burbank tomorrow at 1:10.
Remember the game is televised on ABC so it starts earlier than usual.

I think it is a bit much to say he is 'treated unfairly'. On the contrary it should give him encouragement, lets him know he is close and his chance is just around the corner. I would be suprised if Brown last the whole season, his position will open up for Anthony.

Also to those saying 'I would have preferred JA over Toovey' it clearly wasn't a choice between JA and Toovey. It is Ben Reid that has gotten the spot open to JA. We need another running player to replace Egan - that was going to be either Lonie, Toovey or Stanley. We need another KPP to replace Goldsack - that was going to be Reid or JA.

Sad to lose Goldsack...but im really pumped at the prospect of seeing Anthony out there. I reckon he plays with the guts all defenders should play with and has the ability to be thrown forward and have impact.

Good luck

Couldn't agree more D86. I think this kid was unlucky not to get a run Round1 v Freo so a debut this week is reward for hard work and good pre-season form. From what I've seen I think this kid could play anywhere and contribute.

Actually, I have been really looking forward to this one since the VFL draw was announced. This and May 24 when we catch up with Euge in my own backyard.

Will keep an eye out for the Quacker...oh yeh...Kwaka. Embarassed Wink
