Forgot to add that many players who have spindylosthesis tend to get lots of soft tissue unjuries, particularly hamstrings, quads and calves. This is because the muscles are always tight around there because they're under stress. _________________ Formerly LeighBrownBrigade |

If you have grade 3, forget about sport. Now, the injury is serious and you can never fix it. Ever. Usually L4 or L5 have moved forward. In my case the L5. Which detached from my sanctum. The result? Severe stenosis of the spine where you have smaller disks and herniated ones pinching nerves and to a point that can damage them permenently. Also, sciatic pain. In some cases, extreme. Famous athletes like Andre Aggasi and yours truly (LOL) try and manage it as best as you can. The pain can be debilitating.
How do you get this injury? Some people are born with it. Others develop it playing sport. In particularly, cricket (bowlers) and AFL footballers especially ruckman who jump often jarring their lower back. Once you get it you need to rest for months to ensure that the L4 or L5 returns to its original position. If it doesn't, you have a life long issue of managing the severity of it depending on the grade of the injury (1, 2, 3).
In my case, I had to stop martial arts. It devastated me. I hope that Elliot had a grade 1 which can be managed by ensuring you have a very strong core and you do weights to strengthen the muscles around the spine to ensure that it is stable.
It's a serious injury and has in many cases finished careers. Most of the people who have this injury have sciatic pain and or can't touch their toes. They also experience very tight and sore lower backs as the muscles in this area are always compensating for the weakened spine. |
In summary, he's f*cked! |
Does Elliot have spindylosthesis? ....... I don't think he has actually been diagnosed with that as such. Correct me if I am wrong but there are subtle differences. _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds

Oh come on FFS. More effen injuries and set backs. We can't take a trick. I'm just about ready to give up altogether. How much more crap can we take. If it's not an injury then it's another set back to a player recovering from one, or a suspension, or a scandal, or bad form, or the game plan. When will anything go right for us. |

isn't it best to wait until something is confirmed before jumping off the deep end? _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

Sometimes you have to wonder whether it is worth players like Elliot going on.
Who wants to be a cripple when you get older and it was caused by bashing your body by playing sport.
Disturbing news coming out of the USA about head knocks of late.
Suggestions that repeated head knocks ( not just severe concussions ) but just strong whacks to the head can lead to all sorts of brain problems ..dementia, etc... down the track.
No one wants to end up like Greg Williams. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

^ I understand that you're joking, but do we really have to carry on with this constant insinuation that the club is actively covering up long term injuries, or making small injuries worse through bad management. It really craps me off, it's like every second comment when discussing any injury makes it out to be the as if the club is wholly responsible - not the nature of the game, not the fact that we don't really know what is happening inside the body, not the different ways that people heal or recover. Apparently we do.
It seems a number of supporters live for the opportunity to bag the club they purport to support at every possible opportunity for not being perfect. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

His hammies are the issue, all related to his back injury, I don't normally speculate on such things unless I have a good source, the info I recieved was a few weeks ago though. _________________ Defender...........
