Nowadays, the first place a prospective employer looks is Myspace and Facebook.

I've heard numerous stories about people NOT getting a job because of what they have on display.

That's rather strange way to rule a person out of a job, maybe I should revamp my little myspace page Wink

we ALWAYS do it at my work when we are hiring new people.

Why? and do you request the myspace page? Or just search their name?

Just search.
And anything. When you have over 200 people apply for the one position you need to exclude people.
We mainly look at their..
- location (prefer someone closer to our office)
- interests (very close group so need someone who fits in well)
- if they are working now (especially if we say we need someone asap)

It's a lot easier to then organize interviews with people who you might want and who you might not. Others might totally bomb out in interviews but you know they would be perfect for the job, by seeing what their myspace/facebook/stickam etc is like.

But would it be better to meet them Face to Face?

Thanks sam and that's fair enough. If anyone wants to put silly things on their myspace/facebook etc then so be it. But clean it up if you're looking for a job. Idea
