Not a fan of Guthrie, losses possesion too easily, and R.Taylor is an absolute dud, but will hopefully be good players at the lower level if still at the club.

I got the impression from body language that Smith might stay because of the huge respect he has for Shearer (if he stays on), and to repay the club somewhat. Did you see that look Smith and Shearer gave each other as they shook hands after the final whistle Sunday?? I might be reading it wrong, it might have been a goodbye and good luck look.

Would be good if Beye and Duff stay, they are 2 "effort" players that give 100%.
Jonas might be too soft for Championship, will spend more time on his arse than on his feet. Every time he dribbles around someone they will just kick him, not sure he will be able to handle that.

Martins Crying or Very sad ..., Owen, Bassong will get better offers.
I was not happy with Enrique for a while, coz he gives the ball away with ridiculous passes all the time, but his defensive work as a full-back is excellent. More of his lairising passes are likely to come off in CCC if we can keep him.

I think most will leave if they get offers from top flight clubs though.....
.....some might stay if Shearer stays.

Owen would be the first player i would flick - he only cares about playing for England. He sums up where Newcastle went wrong imo. Overpaid, injury prone and more interested in his country than club.

Well I am now looking forward to next season and the hope that a seriously overdue complete overhaul at St James' may eventuate and we can bounce back bigger and better than before (i know im getting a bit too optimistic!)

I'm usually not too good at creating a best sides etc, but here is my take on what may or should happen in the summer.

I agree 100% on Owen, he has just been an overpaid under performing waste of a place on the list. I would have gotten rid of him in January. He's kidding himself if he thinks the quality of football he has shown since he arrived at Newcastle is anywhere near good enough to play for England.

Martins can be brilliant, but also can go missing. His finishing has been woeful this season. He will get snapped up by a premiership club anyway.

I hope we give Dukes another year. I think he would be superb in the championship if he can stay fit. He was our best striker in the last few games and really showed his worth. Should have had the stupidly disallowed oal that ultimately would have kept us up against Fulham. If I was him and had a choice between championship football and the a-league (from reports he doesn't want to be another Aloisi and clubs don't have any marquee spots left anyway), I would choose the championship for sure!

Lovenkrands is gone, reported today that he is looking elsewhere.

Barton, gone.

Colochini is being looked at by some spanish clubs, thank god, rubbish player and the highest money earner, we can't afford to waste money on him.

Geremi, Cacapa, both wastes of space, cut.

S Taylor, Duff and Beye have already said they want to stay, I'd keep all three. We want players that want to play for the shirt and these three are prime examples, try hard all day every game and would be great assets in the CCC.

Butt just signed a new deal and I think he would stay, too old for consideration at top flight clubs.

Nolan, R Taylor and Guthrie I'm not sure about, I'd like to keep Guthrie as he seems to be good with set pieces, although that is what we got R Taylor for and he hasn't really produced anything with his limited game time, Nolan may go elsewhere if he get an offer, it would worry me either way.

Enrique and Jonas. Both can be very good but also very bad. I would keep one of them and sell the other. We may have to sell both.

Carrol, and Ranger to be our first choice strike force.

I expect Harper will stay and we have some good backup in Krul for the keepers.

We will need to sign a right back or 2, a few creative mids, and probably at least one or two good strikers.

So my team next season would be something like this (4-4-2 formation):

---------------Harper---------------
Signing--S Taylor--Signing--Beye
Signing--Butt-------Signing-- Duff
--------Carrol-----Viduka----------

Subs: Ranger, Lua Lua, Krul, Guthrie, R Taylor, Nolan, Edgar and other well performing reserve squad players and signings.

I am excited for the season ahead, back in the premiership and the ability to sign some players.

Though, we have signed Perch, already, just have to wait on the FA for Gosling.

Chasing Weiss from Slovakia.

What does everyone think of the possible signing of Ben Arfa?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/championship/newcastleunited/7909439/Newcastle-United-step-up-the-hunt-for-Marseille-winger-Hatem-Ben-Arfa.html

Would be a massive signing if it comes off but maybe a risk due to his history of bad attitude?

Sol Campbell joins Newcastle on a free transfer rejecting a one year deal with the Gunners.

Gosling has also joined the Toon, on a free transfer.

Andy Carroll was handed the famous Number.9
