I'm pissed off but we've always got next week in this train wreck of a corona virus year.

I'm pissed off because that was a goal to DeGoey.

Summed it up perfectly DTM. I think if you were coaching this team many of these gutless overpaid players would be dropped! I can count at least nine players I would drop .

The only good thing I can think of is that the whole season might be called off.

I agree. And who knows what the psychological impact was of being denied the goal?
And who knows what the psychological impact would have been if the goal had been rightfully paid? It was an inspiring effort by JDG, like his 2018 form.
That is what I mean by alot went against us tonight. Alot of blind misfortune and alot of luck in terms of lucky bounces went Essendon's way. But we have an issue overall with our response to pressure. Our response to pressure is far too passive and non threatening to the opposition.

Yes one quarter of football in the last three matches means he is suitably qualified to play football: schoolboy football I'm afraid. Callum Brown is a shell of his former (2019) self as is Phillips.

I was oommenting in response to your juxtaposition of him and Varcoe. Varcoe was appalling all night and should never have played. He was cooked at the end of 2018. I do not know why we keep playing him.

Brown has the makings of a champion centreman. I have no idea what they think they are doing playing him at half-forward, especially since we have no competent centre clearance mids apart from Pendlebury.

Varcoe was where the ball was in the last quarter: played a lot better than he did at 1/2 back despite only 2 possessions. Brown has been diabolical and a liability for most of this year. His brother is also not up to it in my view. Tyler has potential & Brown of last year was great but he is significantly down on form.

I reckon we should stay in Perth for the rest of the season. Dry weather might help our game plan.

Yeah, it seems we have become so regimented in playing to structures, that we can't play risky or hard ball footy anymore. To get just get the ball forward at all costs - ie play wet weather football - seems foreign to us. We seem to lose confidence, unless there's a clear option available. So, we just handball in circles instead!!

I’ll say it again why not try Moore forward for a change up and play Mihocek back? SuperCoach 💩

Very biased and one sided tonight. Can't stand Bruce and Brian!

Both Treloar and Grundy rack up the stats but don't have the impact on the game that you would expect.

I think the lack of a forward line is related to our fantastic defence. Our defence is fantastic because our entire team is trained to perfection to defend the opposition attack. So we lose forward structure, as Jamie Ellott, Mihocek, Stephenson flood back to defend. Unfortunately, with the loss of Howe, and his incredible intercept marking, this tendency will only become more stronger. So the result is: despite the overwhelming momentum of the oppositon, we hold their scoring to a very low level, but are incapable of scoring ourselves. With such a defensive approach, it will be impossible to be a contendor.
The connection between Grundy and the midfield haS in no way been addressed. We were decimated in clearances, forcing our mids into a defensive orientation the entire game. Our mids were totally aligned in the defensive mindset: after the first 10 minutes of the game, there was absolutely no offensive intention from our midfield. Safety first, run backwards but not forwards.

Our midfield was beaten again
Our forward line was ordinary
Our backline was reasonable.
We lost and the umps gave us double the amount of trees.
Pathetic

Why not change Grundy and Cox positions
Couldn't do worse.
