Fair enough, but if you have kids of an age where you wouldn't want them to watch it, then don't let them. It comes down to a thing called "parental supervision".

Young kids should be in bed by 9:30, not watching TV.

That might be ok for very young children but I guess the older they get the harder it would be to supervise the TV they watch. I don't think it would be suitable for teenagers either, those aren't the sort of values young people should grow up with.

Oh, and despite AndrewBolt's definition, I don't agree that it's pornography.

I haven't seen it but I respect Andrew Bolt's opinion, he's a pretty good journo and writes a lot of commonsense.

If that's porn, how would you define what happened on good 1970's shows such as "the box", "number 96" and "Alvin Purple"?

Those shows were a bit before my time, I wasn't born until the very end of the 70's Smile

Tell you what, how bout you watch it next week then come back and tell us what you think.

As far as values go, as a parent of teenage kids, my take is you imbue them with values when they're young and then have to trust their judgement to a degree as they get older.

At 14-15 they'll get exposed to a lot worse at school and that's out of your control. If you haven't done your job as a parent well before then............................

Heres a non-radical concept. Seeing that the majority of the population find pornography offensive

People have the right to not be exposed at all to that sort of thing in their own homes. Children shouldn't be whether they choose to or not and I doubt many of them would use the "off" switch.

Majority? Offensive?
Nope.

"Children"? At 10pm? Where is the parental control? Nothing to do with 10. Wonder if you are as vocal about the way the church treats children?

Birdy, I suggest that you take your religious views even further to the right and join the Exclusive Brethren. No radio, no TV, no movies. No way you could ever be offended if you prefer to live in the 18th century.

The majority of the population don't like pornography? Since when? What polling can you base this opinion on?

I have very strong views on parents complaining about 'porn' on TV. If your child somehow views this programming, then it is YOUR responsibility as a parent to ensure they don't. Why on earth do people think they can rely on a TV to educate and entertain their children? I'm only 21, but FFS, if I ever have kids (which I won't, because I hate kids), they won't be sitting infront of the tv at night time, and after school. They will be going out, playing sport, socialising, and being urged to live a HEALTHY lifestyle, that involves not becoming a fat arse and living in la-la land, because for some reason, people think that what happens in a TV show is always a real life scenario.

I refuse to hide the fact that I enjoy pornography and 'tasteless' 'trash', because it may offend someone who has simple religious beliefs.

No one is forcing you to watch it. It's very simple. Don't like it? Change the channel.

Since you didn't need to prove statistics, or results of any polls.

What would people's views be if hardcore pornography was shown on free-to-air at 10 pm? Hypothetically speaking.

I cannot see it making it to air, even after they promoted it, it would be be removed pretty quickly. I wouldn't want to see pornography on FTA, but I could be biased against porn, because I am not at all interested in porn.

X Rated porn doesn't even make it onto cable tv as it is. The adults only channels on subscription tv are R rated light pornography.

The Porn industry would not even want to air it on FTA as they won't make a lot of money from it.

I'd say there was more money in paid channels on Cable Television and on PPVs (I've heard that there are some porn movies PPV in the states, at least in hotels...never been there so I cannot attest to the accuracy.)

I have noticed that the local video store has a whole section "Adult Movies" I haven't seen many make their way out of the building as yet.

Those sold in a local video shop would be MA and R rated. That is all they are allowed to be licenced to sell. Foxtel and Austar has it's own PPV channel dedicated to soft porn up to an R rating, same with hotels in Australia that use systems such as Movielink etc. As far as I am aware, X rated porn is only allowed to be sold via Adult Shops who obtain a licence to sell these.

You will never see anything R rated on FTA tv, and you will never see anything X rated on Cable TV, or Hotel TV.
