Who did Thorpey say he would turn gay for on Rove this time? I fell asleep just seconds before it was asked! (Last time he said it would be Rove)

He asked if Rove had a brother....Rove then said that he does and he is free, followed by "just don't tell your lovely new girlfriend about it" and they both laughed!

I do hate that last question though? I mean what is the point of it? I am waiting for the day someone says..."nobody! I am more than happy and comfortable with my decision concerning my sexuality and have no interest what so ever in any other alternative no matter who they might be..." at least that is the answer I would be giving! but no doubt I or the person who said that would be shouted down as oppressing the Gay community and some independent reporter will twist it around and claim that the person is probably gay for the answer that they gave....I just hate the double standard...you can walk down the street with a placard that says "I am gay and it's ok!" and everything is fine but if you walk down the street holding a sign that says "I am hetrosexual and it's ok!" you somehow become a person who oppresses the gay community or a gay person already but are just hiding it....

Cheers

I wonder if Rove had an openly Gay guest, if he'd ask them who they'd turn straight for?

Yep I saw that one and he did actually say "Who would you turn straight for?" because he did the interview shortly after he came out (as if he had to, I thought everyone knew).

I am so over Rove! Does he actually think he's funny?

Won't be surprised if Thorpe is Gay, but as Seinfeld said, "There's nothing wrong with that!"

and growing up in the 50's with those problems was a lot harder too.

stop trying to make people be the spokesperson for gay, lesbian, gender issues, when their sexuality is none of our business.

If you want a spokesperson.......be one!

you know, some people sue when others label them homosexual.....your labelling this guy, he DOESN'T WANT to 'come out' as either straight or gay...leave him alone

I think you are clutching at straws Tess. The pressure put on high profile people to declare their sexuality has only caused more harm to the cause of gay and lesbian rights.

You have failed to answer my earlier hypothetical question about what the reaction would be if Ian took his own life because of the constant pressure to declare his sexuality!

I have and never will have an issue with any person, high profile or not coming forward on a voluntary basis to declare his sexual preference...it is their choice! to advocate or to advertise sensationalist journalism based on innuendo, gossip or rumour is wrong. I hate seeing it when it is done in the football world, in fact any environment.

I would much prefer to read a headline that says "Ian Thorpe declares he is Gay" rather than "Is Ian Thorpe Gay? he wears Yellow!" the first is a decision made by Ian to tell the world and maybe, if he decides to, assist in helping others come to terms with their sexuality the latter none of our friggin business! which is the point of my argument (and many others) concerning your posting of this article on this forum. (I still wonder how he would be treated if he came out and said "Yes I am gay and I have a male partner, but I do not want anything to do with the gay community or be a spokesperson for gay rights, I just wish to be left alone!" the Gay community would crucify him for sure!)

As for your other NEW topic I am disgusted that a court of law has allowed a 12 year old to make that decision on her own accord. When I was 12 years old I wanted to be a journalist, professional footballer, astronaut, translator, Prime Minister, movie star etc...to allow a child to make a life changing decision at such a young age to start treatment to become a boy/girl is wrong, What will happen when they reach 14 - 15 and realise it may have just been a phase? I think it is fine to choose to live your life as a boy or a girl if you want, but to make and allow permanent physical changes through treatment to one so young is ridiculous (sits back and waits for the inevitable you are living in the dark ages and oppressive comments)

Cheers

I think you're totally misplacing the blame there. If he did do that (and far too many LGBTI people DO commit suicide) then that's mostly because they don't feel comfortable and/or confident enough that their family and friends will not reject them.

Now I get the sense that you are not homophobic - and that's great - but I think you're very wrong on this issue.

To blame the LGBTI community for the fact that many of their members commit suicide is more than ludicrous, it's disgusting.
