Carlton join the ever growing list of clubs to overtake Collingwood, with a first year coach lol.

I'm in full agreement with you on this one RudeBoy.

I have always thought Swan should be our Captain, very much a LEADER. Idea

28 quarters of football this year and we've won how many?

Round 1 v Swans - 0
Round 2 v Tigers - 1
Round 3 v Saints - 2
Round 4 v Demons - 0
Round 5 v Bombers - 2
Round 6 v Eagles - 2
Round 7 v Blues - 1

So that's 8 quarters won against mostly bottom 8 sides. Imagine how bad we'll be when we face off with the contenders.

This is damning.

Thank fk we kicked a last second goal in round 2.

When we finally get back our full list of senior players, and start winning a few games later this season, we look forward to your response. And if the umps were so rotten, maybe that contributed to the loss too. Confused

Winning games against who? The teams above us?! Huh?!
Geez, let me have it double-barrels when that happens...

Maybe the umpires contributed to the loss; let's just say there is a holding the ball rule for them, and a holding the ball rule for us.
Namely the 2nd quarter when you couldn't hear the TV commentators over the volume of booing from the crowd.

Umpires today gave credence to reinvoking the death penalty

I actually don't believe the rivalry of old exists within the clubs anymore. It's just another game... Process... It's us supporters who treat it like wild fire.

The club will say it does, but it's all spin.

A very, very inexperienced team, missing a lot of our top players, either injured or out of form - Swanny, Varcoe, Elliott, Ramsay, Langdon, Adams, Cloke. Two six-day breaks and a trip to Perth thrown in.

We're officially now in a development year. Absolutely nothing to be gained by switching coaches now and creating even more disunity and lack of cohesion.

I think you and I are outnumbered by those demanding blood.

You can add me to your club.

So what you’re saying is that our we are at zero now???

What were the last two years when we failed miserably?

I think the club (board and football dept) have TOTALLY misread what the requirements were to move forward.

I think we all know that there were more negatives than positives in that, so I'll focus on the better things I saw.

Moore - it was good to see him get into it more in the second half. It showed strength of character for him to get amongst it around the ground and kick some goals, given how poorly most of the team was performing and given his limited impact early. He still hasn't had his second 8 kick game but he was close today. Some great marks (at HB and FF) in the third quarter.

Howe - he showed a bit today. Not enough - but a bit.

Reid - he was excellent in defence, despite the absence of quality personnel around him.

Fasolo - did well in difficult circumstances. 4 goals is a good return on a garbage day. He worked hard too, and made other creative contributions.

Looking forward, White, Aish, Treloar, Broomhead and Greenwood all have the potential to give us solid salary cap relief, in due course (although, given the length of his contract, we'll probably all have grown sick and tired of Treloar well before then).

Smith looks to be a better footballer than De Goey. I'm not sure that's entirely a positive. Perhaps De Goey will knuckle down and work and that will change. It's about time someone asked him the question whether he wants this badly enough.

Toovey wasn't as bad as some of you said in the "Game On" thread. Again, this one is a little equivocal.

Dale Thomas wasn't Carlton's best today.

Yeah there is.

Buckley isn't going to coach beyond this year and keeping him in charge is only going to further erode the players already shot confidence. We are disgraceful and still getting worse and the players aren't benefitting or developing at all from Buckley's tutelage, whatever that is.. A new voice, all be it in a care taker role will at least be a new message, a new mindset and a paradigm shift from the flawed plan they are receiving and it will at least offer the players an alternative from this soul destroying style of play they are failing to play to. Who knows maybe some of them will remember how to enjoy their football again.

It really can't get any worse than this. Smashed by a side that is at ground zero of their rebuild. Seriously this is the absolute nadir of the "succession plan" There are no winners today for this club. We are officially destroyed, divided and without hope.

This is the only reason I am not shouting from the roofs to sack Buckley. I've given him the out of injuries. I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel but I haven't lost hope that it's there like most other nicksters.

I'm pretty much in agreement with this, but it is time for the board to ask serious questions of the relevant executives and managers (eg footy manager Balme and coach Buckley and high perf manager Davoren), specifically why we have again suffered worse than league average injuries (is it really just bad luck?) and why (injuries aside) performances have been so bad.

A few individual positives I took out of the game today:

1) Howe's best game to date for us.
2) Reid was great (and he missed some of the game when his shoulder was being checked out).
3) Fasolo again good.
4) White was actually good.
5) Moore played one of his better games.
6) Smith backed up again, this time as a runner out of defence.
7) Crocker played angry and with a bit of mongrel. I reckon we need some of that.
Cool Pendles and Sidey got plenty of it, but this is offset by the fact that we were smashed in the midfield and they were a significant part of that group.

There were obviously plenty of negatives. The main one is that Aish doesn't look up to it. At this stage I think he should be sent to the VFL and told to get a VFL season under his belt and hopefully dominate at that level. Broomhead is a bit the same. They both have so much potential, but we so rarely see it at AFL level.

I shall get very drunk tonight.
