Interesting you say that. I noticed a couple of times that when Cox was in the ruck tonight, he looked more likely to tap the ball to our favour than Brodie did.

This was exactly my suggestion to a mate in the third quarter.

I think Eddie needs to go. He is a blight on us now, in the media and the general public.

The team

We were as flat as a tack tonight.

However, WHE is not the player we traded from the Giants, he appears done.

Elliott appears to be cooked, I was hoping the long injury curse didn't destrory his game, but it has.

JDG is drinking his own bath water, nowhere near the figure he deserves to be re-signed on.

Stevo goes missing for too long. Needs to develop consistency.

Wills, Varcoe can be delisted.

Cox hasn't improved or grown with the game as he has played it. Sure it was wet tonight, but I think the 2018 PF is the best we will see of him.

Checkers has gone off the boil this year too. Don't know whats happened to him.

Pendles is not racking up the possies anymore, its clear his career is in the twillight now. A year or two left at the most. Shame he wont get a Charlie after all.

I agree. Grundy is better around the ground due to his incredible stamina and body strength, but I reckon Coxy is the better centre bounce tap ruckman.

overall, I am really devastated. Essendon had pretty much a second rate team available, no bellchambers, no heppell, no merrett, no mckenna, and we had sidey out and howe. We really missed Howe. Just totally lacked the spring and energy off half back.
Essendon's pace off halfback was really difficult for us to handle. But I think their ability to rebound with such energy is at least partly due to our ultra defensive gameplan.

Grundy is not impacting the clearances.
So try something different.

Also, as others have commented, we seem incapable of playing in the rain. This was a theme last year as well. In fact, I remember thinking that our summer training should take place in Glasgow, so we learn to play on a slippery ground, in bitter cold.

At least the development of young Daics is a positive. He's taken a big step forward this season I reckon.

Thanks PP for reminding me of a positive to take from this game.

Some genuine from and centre players would be nice, oh, and some cultural diversity, especially inside F50. That would be handy. No secret that nearly every premiership team (or premiership fancy) over the past decade or so has had at least one (or even a flock) of indigenous or ethnic talent lurking inside F50.

Didak, Leon, Krakeuer, Puopolo, Rioli, Liam Ryan, Stokes, Costagna, Pickett, Cameron, Betts...

Not us under Buckley. We’re as bland and white bread as you could imagine, and play accordingly so.

Smile Well, let's see if we can find some more - Stevo improved from last week with a third goal outside of the customary two in the first quarter!
I thought my boy did alright for his first game in ages. Same number of marks as Darcy (4 each) and one more kick, so more disposals Smile Both he and Darcy, we're pinged once each for holding the ball in front of Essendon goal, from ridiculous umpiring decisions that would not have been given last week!!!

Last years Wills came in a stamped himself as a possible senior player. This year he has stamped his papers already. 2 tackles matey? Bye bye.

Treloar is the cream on the cake, Sidebottom, Adams and Pendlebury are the cake and Pendles was well held by someone after quarter time, Sidebottom is still looking for his fng pants.

At least Scharenberg looked ok.
At least it wasn't the Blues tonight.

Must beat the Hawks.

Yet another garbage performance dished up by the Pies tonight who seem to be allergic to pressure and intensity when it counts. Being second to the contest, getting smashed at clearances and not scoring goals for two quarters is not going to win you many, if any, games of football and we saw it yet again tonight. Too many passengers drinking their own bathwater who are either not up to the challenge or not fit enough.

What's with our obsession with over using the handball and letting each and every player touch the ball before someone decides to kick the damn thing. We're our own worst enemy. The loss of howe hurt as did sidearse. To think we'll be missing one of our best players still for another 3 weeks cos he decided to drink himself nude really pisses me off. So many of our players need to take a damn hard look at themselves.

The way to beat Collingwood is with pressure and intensity because we don't like it and don't adapt to it well, and by the time we decide to play, the game's over anyway. We've see it two weeks in a row now.

And what's buckley's plan B when the going gets tough?

Yeah, agree, Schazza looked good. I think retrospectively the decision to omit Noble proved to be wrong. We needed desperately some frenetic rebound off half back. I would have liked to have had Noble there instead of Varcs. I know, easy said in hindsight, but i think that is the case.
Synergy with Grundy and mids is woeful. But how wierd, synergy with Cox at the centre seemed far more likely. Maybe we rotate Cox with Grundy far more than we currently do.

Starting to think now that Buckley wont deliver us another flag.

I was devastated after we blew that 2018 GF.

Starting to wonder how many more chances I will see before I leave this mortal coil.
