We are 1 'elite' clearence player away from going places.

- Ben Cunnington must not be overlooked in the off-season, he will be the only elite clearence player available. If we want a significant upgrade surely we need to consider Cunnington. However I feel the club will target a more Collingwood type of plaer in Dyson Heppel

Sadly, his time as a top quality clearance mid may be limited, as he is 30 years old and suffering from an injury toll, including difficulties with recovering from concussion.

Lets see how he bounces back today. He has a tough test against the Bulldogs.

8 clearences 5 tackles 15 disposals with a Qtr to go, leading all players on the ground atm for Clearences and Tackles

Not bad return after no footy for a year

Guys a Warrior

Collingwood needs Warriors

Simple

Cunnington as Captain Coach; you know it makes sense!

Grundy's athleticism and supreme tapwork matched with Cunnington's powerful dont-argue style in biology is a recipe for success

Collingwood is incapable of adressing team needs if Cunnington is not targeted end of season ( 500-600 ) on a 3 year contract would be good buisness

Cunnington does not rely on speed and evasivness to propell his clearence game, he will be of great use during those 3 years. And he will help take the burden off of Adams and Degoey significantly

I would be chaining JDG to the goal square if we are able to acquire Cunnington

We need a couple of line breakers at the coalface then maybe Grundy can “tap it” differently. We don’t have any speed at the contest and can’t spread quickly enough.

I'd love to see Quaynor given a run on the ball for a few weeks. He is strongly built, quick, a one-grab player, a great kick, good decision-maker and line breaker. We have numerous defensive options, but we are still in urgent need of an injection of speed and grunt in our midfield.

Yep, that's an impressive comeback and agree that a tough competitor would be handy. I am still concerned though about his susceptibility to concussion issues and injury though.

I'm leaning towards thinking now that we need more speed and skill in the mid--field. Pendles sublime skills cannot be counted on forever and we do have grunt individuals in Adams and Sier ( once he develops his tank to the fullest extent). Johnno pointed this out too in his post below.

Yep, someone like IQ would be a blessing. He's so damn effective at half-back though and I would be concerned about weakening the defence which is our strongest element.
Do you have any suggestions as to who might be able to replace Quaynor at half-back?

I have given up on Sier, and Nick Daicos is full of speed and skill

Nope both equally important. But we were actually desperate for a quality ruckman so we could do the 'Malthouse Shuffle' down the boundary line. I was actually working in a restaurant that year pre season and we had some obvious 'Dawks' supporters as customers, we started talking footy and I said we'd win the flag that year due to the two pickups - they laughed.

When he returns from injury, I'd like to see Bianco given a run. By all accounts he has the leg speed and is a beautiful kick, though to be honest, I haven't seen him first hand. He was rated pretty highly when we drafted him 2 yrs ago. Of course, Murphy is another possible defender.

Agree, take either out and we dont win the 2010 flag

Luke Ball was very distinctive compared to the others in the midfield brigade.

We didnt have a tough clearence specialist and the year before im pretty sure it was Lockyer and Ball was a significant upgrade. Luke Ball pretty much did the job of Lockyer and O'Bree togetheer
