I wonder how many of them will find new homes?

You'd think either WCE, GWS or North would offer a lifeline to a few?
Do they really have a choice? They are all on the cheap now with decent tanks

I want us to swap picks for next years draft which reportedly is a beauty. We have little left for next year

Yep - I am in on this approach. Would like to see us restore next year to a full draft hand (add back second and third round). We have plenty of new faces this year, and still some young blokes who can keep developing - its not like we are starved of youth and have to top up now (we kind of did that over the last 2 years including mid season draft).

I would almost settle for using our first rounder, trading out the two picks in the twenties and then taking a smoky at #51 if we are obligated to. Maybe even trade out the first and one of the seconds for something better next year ??

With the perception being this is a shallow draft it's going to be harder than usual you sense to use those decent 2nd round selections for a meaningful 1st round upgrade.

Other clubs simply have better cards to play also when making offers on 1st round picks.

If we end up deciding on using only two live selections our best bet is probably targeting picks 19 to 21 and see if any clubs value an extra selection inside the top 30 ahead of just a single early 2nd round pick. Alternatively we wait and see if anyone offers a future 2nd for one of our picks.

While GWS most likely will be able to entertain much better offers if Hine rated those likely to be selected between 10 to 20 as fairly even would we be better served if we exchanged 16+25+27 for 18+19?

While it's not without risks if we thought the difference between the player we could get at 18 (19/20) instead of 16 (17/1Cool was negligible in comparison to the difference between someone likely still available at 19 (20/21) or 25 (27/2Cool would it be worth it?

Unfortunately every time you try and look at ways we could upgrade our 1st round selection by something meaningful you quickly realise by taking a look at other clubs picks a lot could simply trump us.

*( ) denotes selections adjusted after matched F/S bids.

There's some possibilities in there.

Stack definitely. You don't lose talent. Stocker and Callow could be worth a look, Narkle possibly.

i'm trying to work this out

did we have a full list at the start of the year?

if so, we have lost Grundy, Henry, Brown, Brown, McMahon, Roughead (6)

brought in: Carmichael, Hill, Frampton, Mitchell, McStay (5)

that means we have room for only one more player
two players are unsigned - Magden and Poulter
we have 4 draft picks

there are plenty of list cloggers in there at the moment, but presumably they are all contracted and can't be touched

so, we have no choice but to delist Magden and Poulter

maybe we will re-draft them if nothing better is available

Isn't Carmichael on the Rookie list?

no, mid season draft are not rookies, they nominate how long (or short) they are willing to be contracted for. He is under contract for next year, he basically replaced Roughead on the list

IF we could pick up Stack for Poulter, that would be nice. Is that at all possible. ?

OK, cheers, but why is it referred to as the midseason rookie draft then?

I have not followed his (mis)fortunes.
Does anyone know what happened to him since his departure from Collingwood?

Been following Tom Mitchell on Instagram. Phillips is on holiday with Mitchell.

...rubbing shoulders with ex team mate and incumbent Collingwood player!
That can only be beneficial for Phillips.
We'll see what happens in the delist draft in 2 weeks

Wouldn't it be romantic for Phillips to return to his former club?
I bet most Magpies supporters would be thrilled.

I still have nightmares about the regularity of Philips picking up the footy on the defensive goal line and swinging his boot into it ,to no one in particular and being marked by his direct opponent 25mtrs from goal and sailing straight back over his head for a goal. This was a weekly occurence and I'm sure one of the reasons he was delisted. Having said that, when he played in his proper position on the wing, getting 30 >35 possies a week, he was very good. I doubt he could unseat Josh Daicos or even WHE, although Bobby Hill would be well in front to take over WHE spot. I'd still love to see us trade out out first 3 picks to Hawthorn for pick 6 ,get someone early and hope for a rough gem with the very late picks.

Stack for Madgen would be a whole lot better. With Frampton coming in,Dean back from injury and Will Kelly obviously here to stay, there's simply no spot for Madgen. Nor as a forward with McStay coming in.

They do call it a “ rookie “ draft but that only adds to the confusion. I think they call it “ rookie “ only because it’s designed to give previously unidentified prospects another chance at the big time.
As long as the club has a spot available on either their primary or rookie lists, leading up to the MSD, it can participate in it. The other option available to any club is where a player suffers a season ending injury ( declared inactive ) or in season retirement ( Roughead ) and that spot then opens up for an MSD selection.

I reckon Madge is safe simply because we lost Henry, couple of injuries and he could find himself in the fwd line.

It would be a smart move by us to make a bid on Alwyn Davey Jr at pick 16 wouldn't it?

Essendon would certainly match with their pick 22 you sense and it would mean an additional player would still be on the table when it came to our pick 25.

This could also lead them to potentially offering up their future 2nd for our pick 27 (after 22 their next selection isn't until 54) should we wish to only use two live selections.
