The Spectator is a conservative rag but I think it makes a good point here:

Abbott has declared itsy bitsy and his climbing of the water spout possesses overtly homosexual overtones and wants it banned from all day care centres.

Agree with the sentiment however what you've written is highly contraversial:

Itsy Bitsy, Incy Wincy or Ispy Wispy spider?

Ipsy Dipsy is simply not acceptable.

People have gone to war for less.

As I said, it's a conservative magazine. I agree with some of the things mentioned (anyone with kids worries about housing affordability). However, I would've thought stuff like youth unemployment would be a higher priority.
The point is that whilst ssm is a good thing, as a country, we've got bigger things to worry about.

Damn right. These are the real issues of politics, and it is incredible to see us making such a meal of a marginal issue, which should have been voted yea or may in parliament.

Which is why the idea of a plebiscite something almost exclusively supported by conservatives was always wrong. SSM isn't a special, fundamentally society-altering issue. It's an important civil right and one that needs to be legislated, but not something the nation needed to be stopped on account of. The only group that ended up serving was opponents who wanted to hinder the inevitable for as long as possible.

100% correct. I reckon Mandy nailed it some time ago when she said words to the effect that it wasn't any of (our) business: all people in terms of SSM or not she be able to be legally married.

There is a small group of powerful conservative men who have far too much power & influence

Well & truly debunks the myths of the No campaign but more accurately identifies the deliberate muddying of waters by the extreme conservatives that the plebicite was always intended to do.
