I would imagine that this year we will have a true rotating/floating setup, with Rocca, Tarrant, Fraser, Clokes T & C, Buckley all playing each of the key forward positions at different times each match.

It could be in a way like 1990 small ball lineup that was no longer pointed straight at BT, but allowed Daicos, Brown & McKeown (and others, even Monkey & Manson) freedom to move around within it.

With all those marking targets within 50 we should still be able to be direct, no matter who is lurking where.

I agree with you there, Cam.

Our forwards in 2006:

-Alan Didak
-Anthony Rocca
-Blake Caracella
-Brodie Holland
-Brent Hall
-Cameron Cloke
-Chris Egan
-Chris Tarrant
-Dale Thomas
-Danny Nicholls*
-Josh Fraser
-Leon Davis
-Nathan Buckley
-Ryan Cook
-Sean Rusling
-Shannon Cox*
-Travis Cloke
-Tristan Walker.

Not shabby at all, and plenty to rotate through. Very dangerous indeed.

How dangerous that forward line is will depend a lot on how well the non proven players go. Hall, C Cloke, T Cloke, Rusling, Walker, Cook, Cox, Thomas, Egan are not proven goal kickers, don't think any of them would have kicked more than 2 goals in a game (if they've even played a senior game in some cases) and certainly none have kicked goals on a regular basis. If we can get 2-3 of those players to step up and be kicking goals week in week out then we will have a good forward line. If not we may struggle to post winning scores again.

Wakes has been a great player but was clearly beaten last Saturday. Hopefully just an off day ... I'd hate to think the new tiggy touch wood rules have impacted on his game.

Wakes is a total professional. I wasn't there but it would be reasonable to assume he was rusty and underdone. Was it his first decent hit out?

Rusling never kicked 3.5 in an senior game, he kicked 1.4 when we played Port unless you are referring to a practice match.

Wakes' career is far from over. One practice match a month prior to the season proper and we are prepared to write him off? No way known. Wakes has been a consistent force across the backline since 2001 - five years, and was 3rd in the Copeland Trophy last season. An underrated footballer if ever there was one.

Murdered Lynch in the 2002 Grand Final, and deserved better.

The sight on him sitting with his head in his hands as the siren went in the Punt Road End goalsquare that afternoon was the rain fell is something I will never forget.
