AND .... if Sidey was Goodes or Ablett I reckon 1 week would have been the result.... oh, maybe none for Goodes.... yep a reprimand with an apology perhaps... i'd like to see that!

it also wasn't reckless (although it was clearly negligent). to be reckless, you need to have no regard for the damage you could inflict). I think Sidey was stupid "negligent", but I don't think he went into the contest without caring whether he hurt the guy or not. I think he jumped in the air "stupidly", but once he made that mistake, you will see he tucked the elbow properly to minimize impact and was just bloody unlucky that he happened to tap the part of the head that scrambles brains.
Unfortunately, it was high because by rule the level of contact is determined by among other things the effect on the player. you will find that if its is adjudicated as negligent (which it was) instead of reckless, then its also 3 down to 2 (which by the way, is what it should have been).
I would love the afl to put together a bunch of clips that they deemed negligent, and stack it up against this one. then do the same with its reckless verdicts.

It wasn't a nasty act, fact is he got him right in the sweet spot, he could do it 100 times and not do it again, just unlucky.

I agree with Bucks 100%, not sure what the answer is though, maybe down grading negligent impact could work.

What about the Essendon hit on the GWS player, raised elbow to the head, deemed negligent 45 points only. Looked a lot worse than Sideys
