The game is dead.

Viney is guilty.

THEY, the AFL, have changed the game tonight.

Off side, playing zones and no contact can be introduced.

Aus-Tag is what we now have. Netball, soccer what-ever, this is not the game we love.

The kid went for the ball, he didn't jump, he didn't raise his arm or elbow, he just went hard!!!!

Yes he plays for Melbourne, but what is the future of the game if the rules or this as a precedent, now say that a player approaching the ball must JUMP out of the way if he risks CONTACT with another player/players.

His intent I'm sure wasn't to inflict serious injury but if you elect to bump and break someones jaw then expect to be suspended.

I'm with you, BTP. Saw the incident on the web and can't believe he got cited for it. Tom Lynch got badly hurt, but shit sometimes happens in a contact sport, even when everyone is playing by the rules. Viney was merely bracing for contact, and as far as I could tell most of the damage came from Lynch's head-clash with Georgiou.

This is at least as bad as the Maxwell suspension from five years back that got overturned. Hope the Demons can appeal.

It's not really RIP Aussie Rules.

It's RIP to the AFL as a proper, respected competition.

Clubs and players should seriously consider a break away league where players are allowed to attack the ball without fear of being suspended for an accident.

Nah, a lot of contact sports have changed rules over the years. The rugby codes, NFL etc have all made changes too re head contact and they've also gone too far in most cases.

It's a contact sport, if you take that element out of it we may as well pull 7 men off the field, make it a round ball and play soccer.

Time for Gillon to step in. The rules need to be changed. Shocking decision.

For anyone wondering what this is all about, here's footage of the incident:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHmja_b2h2E

Can you imagine this ever being cited in the days before slow-motion replay? I'm not talking about some nasty behind the play incident, I'm talking about with an umpire standing right there looking at it. Not even worth a free kick in my view.
