The mother of a dying four-year-old has told how her brave son has taught her life lessons.
Peter Gourlay will turn five on July 13, but he's unlikely to make that birthday after a long battle with neuroblastoma cancer.

Wow, just wow. Amazing kid and equally amazing mother. I have 100% faith Eddie and Collingwood will make sure they give this very, very deserving child the full red carpet treatment.
Great also to hear other members of the community calling in and offering their time and resources so he can enjoy the final moments of his life. _________________ A Collingwood supporter since the egg was inseminated. |

Rips your heart out these types of stories. I wish him and his family all the best now and later on. The club should do a segment on "The Club" showing everyone how tough the young bloke and his family are. I reckon Peter would get a huge kick out of being on TV.

Good on yer ed, great stuff, and good on his parents and this little brave guy, just so brave. Take the little fella into the players room pre game v the weagles, tell the players to "Win it for Peter !" and those eagles wont stand a chance. !! _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

I'm always proud to be a Collingwood man, but some days I'm a bit more proud. Well done Ed and thanks Collingwood 4 eternity for bringing this to our attention. _________________ After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!

Heartbreaking. My nephew died at 6 months of age from neuroblastoma. He spent his whole life in pain.
I hope that this little boy has an absolutely wonderful time and I hope that his family can take some beautiful memories away. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

Very sad to hear. The mother sounded lovely, and quite cheerful (which is a potent reminder that even in times of tragedy it's possible to keep on living and trying to make the most out of life). Hope he has a good time meeting the players and has a happy and warm last few weeks. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Having a little guy ,Jasper (6yo), with inoperable brain cancer, I can only sympathise with this wonderful family. Congrats to the Pies and well done. More funding is needed for Kids with Cancer. No child should EVER have to suffer. _________________ Enjoy yourself. Its later than you think! |

Teared up listening to the sound bit of the story but lets keep thing in perspective, it has nothing to do with our Club or benevolence of Eddie. |

I really struggle reading of this type of thing, being a grandfather to seven grandsons under 5, it scares the crap out of me. I hope and pray this type of thing steers clear of my horde, but at the same time, my heart breaks for those who go through it. _________________ Genesis 1:1 |

And we think we've got it tough... Fantastic of Ed and the 2 other gents to call in with offers for the young bloke to enjoy opportunities. Society as a whole should do more of this. |

Eddie is a thoroughly decent human being. These gestures just show why I think he is a credit to our Club. I was once a critic. I am a huge fan now days. He can be our President forever as far as I am concerned. We are very fortunate to have the best President and CEO in the competition. _________________ I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for. |
