Has announced his retirement today. While he did leave to go to the dark side, I would like to congratulate him on his career. He was a good servant while at Collingwood and got the best he could out of himself I believe, then and since.

MM didn't like him and would not have played him.
Was one of the few players who could hold his head up after the 2003 GF

I said in another thread that I held no grudge towards him even though he went to my most hated club - Never blamed him for leaving at the time and glad he was able to forge a solid career.

( just also glad he wasn't a premiership player at said club Wink )

Hope his dodgy ankle won't interfere with his 'dream' of becoming a firefighter.

Did very well after leaving us. Wish him all the best in his future career.

Could be wrong, but I think he is the last player to have played a senior game for us at Victoria Park. Possibly the last player in the competition full stop (not sure if Dustin Fletcher ever played there).

He was indeed a great player. We also traded him for well under value....i remember thinking that at the time. and i just looked it up:

2003 AFL Trade: Heath Scotland Collingwood---Carlton ---Draft Pick #35

Even then he was worth well over pick#35... all hindsight now i guess Smile.

He wanted as much game time as our elite players, Mick told him no, he wasn't sacked, he wasn't told to off, he asked to be traded.

I never liked him anyway.

Agreed.

Was just watching the 2002/03 finals series on DVD (thanks for the heads up DTM) and he really gave his all and had reasonable skills.

The over 100 games at Carlton suggest he would have been useful if he stayed on

I wonder if any of Ben Kennedy, Josh Thomas or Sam Dwyer will ever do what Heath Scotland did and ask to be traded because of lack of opportunity.

MM is one of these weak individuals who has little strength of character and abused his authority by playing favourites. He gave opportunities to people he favoured (eg Daisy Thomas) whist giving little opportunity to those for some reason he did not like (eg: Tyson Goldsack)

Heath Scotland was a victim of this. The fact that he won a best and fairest at the Scum and played on for many years proves his viability as a senior player.

Despite his age and this being the end of his career due to age, once MM joined the Scum this was inevitable.

Well, 215 games at the enemy - but who is counting.?
