Obviously many of us have been expecting that Reid's return will solve our forward problems. However, as each week passes, it seems like Reid's quick return is becoming more of a hope than a likelihood. So, leaving aside Reid's inclusion, how else can we fix our currently dysfunctional/insipid forward set up? I'll focus on our key marking forward set up.

As bad as he is performing, Cloke is still our best key power forward option, so we simply have to persevere with him and hope he comes good sometime soon. Maybe he's injured, or maybe he's not, but he still attracts the best 2 defenders each week so he is secure.

Witts is a work in progress and imo could do with a few weeks back in the VFL playing as the number one ruck. Right now, he does not impact the game enough and his opponents run off him far too easily. Against the Eagles, apart from a snap goal and one good handball, he didn't do much at all. He makes us slow.

White had a shocker last week, but at least he is mobile and flexible. When the ball's not heading his way he should be thrown in the ruck more.

So here's my solution:

Drop Witts and bring in Karnezis. PK might not be quite fit yet, but he may as well get fit playing in the seniors than kicking bags of goals each week in the VFL. Then we should use White more in the ruck to support Grundy. I think this will actually help, not hinder, White's game. He needs to be involved in the action. He's big, fit and quick. Give him an opportunity to use his attributes where the ball is!

We would be down one KPP in the forward line, but since PK and Goldy are both medium talls, that still gives us several marking options. In addition, both Elliott and Fasolo are terrific in the air. It would make our forward line much more dynamic, mobile, quick and dangerous.

My forward set up:

Goldsack Cloke Elliott

Fasolo White Karnezis

If and when Reid returns, we could then move Goldy to defence or on the wing.

I'm starting to get desperate regarding Cloke, he simply can't be allowed to play until he finds form! I'd be willing to play Grundy as a Permanent KF and share ruck duties between Witts and white, bring in PK for Trav, he couldn't do any worse.

Disagree at present, especially with the team winning more than we lose. If we were losing, it would be a different matter.
I would play him in the games against the Aints, Demons and the Bulldogs. However if he is still out of form after these games, then I would agree with you.
I just hope he blitzes his opponent on Friday night or has numerous score assists.

I think Witts has been great and the development has been fantastic, but agree it's time for him to be dropped.

We looked better with White backup rucking and a smaller forward line.

Pending the fitness of Karnezis, he has definitely done enough to earn the spot until Reid is fit.

I genuinely think though the form of our forward line will improve when our midfield starts winning clearances. We have been smashed in this area the last 2 weeks. Our defence has done an awesome job to keep us so close in games, however good sides are going to tear us apart if we allow so many easy clearances.

Get the ball in there quickly with our players one out and see how we go.

Some decent delivery will help too.

Dropping Witts will have no effect the VFL team has a bye.
Not playing him in the VFL vs playing him in the AFL which does more for his development?
Can Grundy play number 1 ruckman for an entire game?
Will we run Grundy into the ground?

I wouldn't drop Witts during a bye in the VFL. He will play.
Keefe for Brown is the obvious change and if Blair is suspended, either Thomas or Adams (if he is not suspended) coming in.
Karnezis as an emergency.

Both Grundy and Witts played forward the majority of the time White was rucking so I don't see how that equates to "a smaller forward line".

And yes, we did start to click when White went onto the ball. Don't know why this doesn't happen more often even when/if both Witts and Grundy are playing. Just another change up to keep the opposition guessing.

And I agree, forward line will start to function better when we start dominating clearances again. A stable defense wouldn't hurt either.

In the OP I've proposed to play White much more in the ruck, to help Grundy and to help White.

Obviously, for Witts' development it's better playing him in the seniors, but not if it weakens our team. Right now we are on the cusp of grabbing a top 4 spot, so we have to pick our best team. As much as I expect him to be a 10 yr player for us I think he is currently weakening our team.

Fair enough. I suppose the point is that the majority of our goals came from smalls so I'd structure up with guys like Fasolo, Elliott, Karnezis, Blair and Goldsack rotating up forward and Cloke and White the talls. I reckon that makes us way more dangerous as Fasolo, Karnezis and Elliott are dead eyes on goal.

Reid is available for selection this week according to Rocket's injury update, but will be about 3 weeks away from seniors due to the VFL bye and them wanting to get a couple of VFL games in to him.

I disagree that Witts needs to go back to the VFL, I think the duo with Witts and Grundy is actually working quite well. There's actually bugger all between them this season for stats http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?tid1=5&pid1=3701&tid2=5&pid2=3812&type=A&fid1=S&fid2=S

The way the game is played at the moment the only time the players actually are in position are at the start of each quarter and after a goal, I'm not sure of the benefit of dropping Witts for Karnesis. I didn't see him this week but I hope his defensive side is continuing to pick up.

Fas and Billy can both move between forward and back during a quarter as they did this week.

Personally I'd prefer to see the side settled with people in the VFL banging the door down to get a game and people in the AFL having to contribute each week or be dropped.
