Okay...gotta go......back to the chalkboard!

There are any number of different ways of interpreting this message, and i'm not sure which one you meant.

I am sick & tired of people making fun of other posters' spelling errors...

I am sure you are all english teachers, but the amount of crap that DTM gets and others is ridiculous..

I wrote a thread "The GAPPING hole at our Club"...

Instead of discussing the thread you had a go at the typo error...

Grow up & get a life!!!!

If you're going to whinge about it, how about referring to the exact wording of that heading?

The original heading was 'The gapping whole out our club'.

Even now, it still reads 'The gaping hole out our club'.

Plenty of browser add-ons that will spellcheck your posts. Is it laziness that prevents people from using these programs?
It appears most mistakes are made by posters trying to be the first to post latest news.

I agree with the original complaint. In the vast majority of cases, potentially interesting discussions turn to crap because of minor and completely understandable spelling or grammar errors.
The message is not ambigious as it was in the title of this thread, even if the words don't sound similar phonetically.
Four phucks sayke gett ay lyfe.
Furthermore add-ons are not perfect either and would not have a problem with gapping, or site vs sight, write vs right or arse vs ass.

I edited my original message to add a comma after the word "cases". Without it, I was concerned that my post would be completely unintelligable, and a waste of my effort and Nicks bandwidth.

Except for the case where, as pointed out by Hugor, the topic is hijacked by the speeling police, just spell the way you spell. If someone has a problem thewn they have a problem - it's not your responsibility to solve their problems for them.

It's a bit of flattery really that they like your post so much and find it so interesting that they are offended if you spoil it with a bit of creative spelling or grammar.

I don't care how things are spelt, as long as the feeling and info is passed on.

But I do dislike the spelling police having spelling or grammar mistakes themselves. I have to sit on my hands so I won't point out their mistakes, and fall to the level they are on. Jeez, its hard sometimes, let me tell you!

Exactly, you should learn and say thank you. I realised last year that I had always spelt the word 'definitely' wrong. Did I get angry? No, I got embarrassed and thought of all the ways I'd humiliated myself. Being a good speller and being able to punctuate correctly seems to be dying out with the introduction of spell checkers. It's a bit sad. I want to be able to spell, punctuate and construct full and proper sentences because I don't want to appear to be illiterate. I heard that the spelling of some words are going to be changed in the dictionary because they are so often mispelled that they thought it would be simpler to just change the spelling of the word entirely. Yeah, why don't we facilitate the people who aren't willing to learn so they can legitimately become more stupid. Rolling Eyes You say "grow up and get a life" but I think literacy is all a part of that, don't you? Perhaps you should grow up.

How do you figure that somebody is more stupid because they don't know the correct spelling of a word? If I asked you to spell myxamatosis, would you know how to spell it, and more importantly, would it really matter if you did or not?

I think correct spelling is important to an extent, definitely, but people who are obsessed with it need to check their priorities.

You might be interested to know that many if not most English words have changed spelling over time.

To Too Two?

Your You're?

I before E?

People should know the basics at least. After all, we learnt them in primary school which is compulsory. No excuses.

Not saying anyone's perfect, we all make mistakes, but don't have a hissy when someone corrects you, shut up and learn.
