I know what you mean Joffa. I am going but I did think about it though.
I think the reason I am losing the passion is that it doesn't feel like a real competition anymore. 18 teams are just too many. Why did we need the expansion teams? Uneven draws, tanking, different prices for different matches, Essendon still playing for points, grand final tickets going to corporates are just some of the things that p*ss me off.
Its all about money, forget about the fans. Television is king now not us.
AFL needs a huge wake up call. Give the game back to the people. |

It's a 250km return trip on my bike, which needs a bit of love at the moment and may not benefit from doing these kays. And the weather is crap. And I have a huge day of physical labour on the cards tomorrow.
Now two years ago none of these factors would have stopped me from leaving around about now and getting home around midnight.
Two hours ago I was going, but now I am not.
I'm gonna watch it on TV and eat cheap food and drink cheap beer and drink lots of it and be asleep by eleven.

Unfortunately I can relate to it.
Is it too much saturation?
I've got a very early start tomorrow at work again. So I'm watching it at home. A few years ago I would have gone. TV, heater, feed pets, good company with wife (although she'll be in the other room as I watch the game), no piss fartin' around to get home.
If I was working later in the day tomorrow, I would have been there.
That's on an individual level.
The corporatization of football has served to make out feel less close to it, more remote from it & less part of it than I have "felt' before.
I still love watching it live though.

Sitting on the couch right now, heater on. All comfy and toastie....
But I'll go tonight. I do understand though those feeling disenchanted by it all. Personally I don't WANT to go. It'd be much nicer to watch it from here.
It's certainly not what it used to be.
