Umpires, like players, make mistakes, on both sides. I thought the most critical mistakes last night favoured us - there were several cases in the last quarter where WCE forwards should probably have received fees for holding or over the shoulder close to goal, and the Grundy 50 wsa a terrible decision, even if it favoured us. The fact that the Weagles fans think they got crucified tells you that supporters see umpiring through their own one-way mirror.

Geez, You are pUtting it very Nicely

What about 20 Others they missed for us and it was a bit late and got him in the eye - It was 50

I was at the match and thought umpiring was pretty bad but when I watched the replay the commentators were calling missed frees for the eagles not us. Have not watched the "red for Ed" version but I am sure that would be more to my interpretation.
Wink

There was a Hawks fan going bananas about the umpiring and he was pro Collingwood. Wonders never cease

Personally I thought the umpiring was pathetic for the entire game..
The first quarter was kind of ok.
2nd and 3rd bloody wakeful and against us.
The final quarter swung back in our favour but still some of the decisions were friggin terrible. Eagles supporters feel robbed because the umpiring in the final quarter was all our way and subsequently we won. This on many occasions has been what has happened to us. Games won by the opposition, assisted by poor umpiring decisions. We still deserved the win and to be honest, if the umpiring was decent in the 2nd and 3rd we may well have won by a bigger margin.
Anyhoo we won. We are awesome. We are Collingwood.
Kiss my ass wet toast.
Go Pies

^ Kind of agree with you Leggie. When we got a couple of frees, things turned our way a bit and we capitalised.

Thought the umpiring was influential in our struggles in terms 2 & early in the 3rd. We got the run of things in the 4th and get on top on the scoreboard.

The umpiring was disgusting. We got one lucky 50 late in the game, but so what? The amount of times they got frees for BS stuff outweighed that decision.

Must admit though, they interpreted the ducking of the head well for most of the night. The Eagles did it constantly and the umps rarely fell for it.

They were pretty shit in the first Q, but thought they let the game flow pretty well after that. Didn't notice too many wrong decisions myself...

'Twas horrible yesterday, just horrible.
It's not about the odd mistake, we can live with the odd mistake, it's the overall interpretation of the game's rules.
You can tell the ones that never actually played, or were that scared little forward pocket kid that had about 3 kicks in the 5 years they played juniors before turning to officiating.

Just watched the best umpired game I've seen for about 10 years this arvo; and it was a WRFL under 16 match. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Of course the umpiring was inconsistent, weird, and biased against us, but what else is new nowadays ??

The umpiring was shit.

What made it stand out was when a potential free to Collingwood was given play on, followed a free given to West Coast seconds later.

I listen to the radio while watching the game, at one point in I think the 3rd a potential free to the West Coast was flagged by the radio commentator in front of goal. The other bloke said, the crowd would tear the place down if that got paid. And the mood in the crowd was such that they just might have. I haven't seen the crowd collectively that pissed off with the umpires for a long time.

I wouldnt advocate something violent, but it might take a joint statement about the ridiclous frees that are paid against us while cloke getting held at every contest is just play on!

I just watched the third quarter again. I feel like I need a Valium.

How can anyone say we got the better end of the umpiring??

What I have noticed in several games is if we are behind and we start playing better and the intensity lifts, the free kicks for Collingwood dries up, and the opposition get free kicks that are really dubious. And THAT is what gets us riled up. It has happened several times this year.
