Keeffe can also ruck as well as hold down both defensive posts. C'mon the guy is second on the Foxtel AFL quiz and could coach us as well.

FWIW, here's my preferred defensive unit:

B: Williams Keeffe Maxy

HB: Langdon Frost Seedsman

I'd have Young and Lumumba play on the wings, providing added defensive pressure, run and carry out of defense when needed.

I'm assuming Seedsman will only get better and better as the season progresses and he gets fitter.

With current and anticipated player availability, I'd prefer

B: Williams Keeffe Toovey
HB: Langdon Frost Maxwell

Seedsman moves to a wing. This also allows the Seed to go back and allow Maxy to be the +1. Lumumba, Young and Sidey on wings also offer strong defensive support.

Sinclair, Reid, Scharenberg, Broomhead could all figure more prominently in my thinking depending how the 2nd half of the season plays out.

Can't argue with that. Only by my count you've included 4 wingers - Seedsman, Lumumba, Young and Sidey!

Yeah I know, reckon the AFL will let us take a few extras into finals games?

Actually I could live with Seed at HB freeing up Maxy to be the +1, H and Young on the wings, Sidey high HF.

Also forgot to factor in Oxley as a possible.

If we ever get everyone or almost everyone fit, there will be a lot of rotating, both in and out of the team, sub to starting 21, and rotating of positions within a game. So as jackass says, they positions won't be locked down to that of the selected team. And given that so many of these players are very young, there is plenty of opportunity remaining for them to put forward their case.
