do you srsly think you would be able to go out on the ground if that ground was still used by AFL?

I dont think so!
Food still being cheap? Refer to the above.
Next you will be asking for grass seating area's inside the MCG to bring ur picnic basket and throw rug...

What about petrol prices? since you drove to Waverley....bring back cheaper petrol for people driving to the game!

People just dont understand. How many games in adelaide or perth did u see live on tv back then? Zero!!

Society is so fuked up these days, want want want, they never understand what other luxuries they have been given.
LIKE THIS GOD DAMN FORUM U KNUCKLE DRAGGERS

OH yes, and that wonderfully located and cheap Chardonnay SHITHOLE, Etihad, is so family friendly isn't it ?? No $£$%^%%$ parking, the wasteland end of the CBD, massively expensive food, cold and soulless, as the theatre goers and high rollers dine in luxury, as he peasants freeze in the cold an steel outer. Worst place ever conceived to watch footy, bar none, I have been there six times, never, ever again. Rolling Eyes Mad

The worst decision of all time was to build bloody Waverley in the first place!

I mean, no public transport to the ground...

Unless you drove (or lived within walking distance) the only way to get there from anywhere else in MEL was via the Glen Waverley line & then you rode those ugly blue Ventura private buses --- packed to the shit house they were!
And it took you all day to get there & back!

It was shit, it was far, it was damn cold & in the middle of nowhere!

Personally, I'm not a fan of Etihad or whatever they called/will call it in the future, but at least fans are able to access the ground relatively easy by public transport.
Also, it's in the CBD where you can at least have a few drinks, a meal before/after a game at a nearby Pub, Crown, Macca's etc. for the kids especially if you don't want to pay the over inflated prices at the ground...

Many, many more options, unlike VFL Park.

We really are spoilt aren't we? Look at Sydney, they need to go out to Homebush for their second stadium. But no the whiners from the Eastern suburbs want a stadium next door to where they live, bugger anyone else Rolling Eyes.

Etihad?

Cold? Waverly was at least an average of 10 degrees cooler than Etihad. They didn't call it Arctic park for nothing.

Wasteland end of the city? Yeah sure. It's a 5 minute tram ride from the rest of the city and no one's asking you to live there, just watch footy.

Parking? What sane person is driving when there is a train station across the road? I have never driven to Etihad. Still, I'm sure some people have their reasons and I do know that there is parking, whether it's adequate or not I would not know.

Expensive food? Again, what sane person buys food at the football if they are so upset about the prices? Bring your own or go a couple of hours without eating. It is possible.

Etihad is a world class facility, conveniently located. Anyone who would want a ground that is a nightmare for anyone who doesn't live in the area to get to and located out in the wasteland of the suburbs, is just complaining for the sake of it. We have some of the best sporting facilities in the world here in Melbourne. There aren't too many cities that can boast three major stadiums and a world class tennis facility. Getting rid of Waverly and building a proper stadium in the CBD was one of the best decisions the AFL has ever made.

That Hiss started a hilarious thread about returning to Waverley does not surprise me. That other people agreed with him... Shocked

Spoken like a true member of the Chardonnay set, narrow minded and short sighted. Hows the Medallion club going, nice and warm like a friggin lounge room is it, rubbing shoulders with the movers and shakers, the Opera crowd set ? Fact is, had Waverley had a rail way line, it would have thrived, and by not having a footy ground out that way, hundreds of thousands of fans who live in massive growth areas like Cranbourne, Pakenham, Narre warren, Hallam, Berwick, Gipplsland, even out my way near Bayswater, are denied a handy ground, that could have seated 100 000, far more than the Ethihad shithole you rave about. You can keep your Etihad shithole and all it represents, thanks very much, as for world class facility, that's a joke, and it is damn cold with that friggin roof shut, with its fake grass, I love the G, but not that shithole, most unfamily friendly ground of all time. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Had governments built a rail way line out there, even a tramline up from Waverley station, it would have thrived. Idea

^^Should we build a new stadium and a new train line in all of our growth corridors? Or just the one that's convenient for you? Talk about age of entitlement Rolling Eyes. And whether we had Waverly or not, you'd still need to come into the city to watch the footy, unless you want all Collingwood games played there. So what's the big deal?

And I don't drink Chardonnay or anything else by the way Wink.

No way would it have thrived, it's in the middle of a bloody residential area!
Transport would've only made it quicker to get there, nothing more nothing less!
There's nothing else out that way...

If this area is such an important growth area why haven't the A-League targeted it?

Melbourne has the best CBD and even with the Council and State Governments trying their hardest to destroy access to it people would rather head into town to watch their entertainment!

I agree it was a shocking decision to build Etihad Hiss. What a crap indoor stadium it is now. Why don't they ever open the roof? And the lights are so dark in there.

But I'd sooner see them re-open the suburban grounds like Victoria Park than rebuild Waverley. It won't be long before you can fit the average AFL crowd into a shoebox (going on the shocking turnup at Etihad today). Razz

Well spoken. But my issue is with the asians buying up all our good real estate where we could out a decent ground eg: Waverley. And DTM you are right. They are getting bigger due to our food and beer. They'll start looking like us soon. Good aussie physiques.
