Totally agree on Lipinski. I’ve been a fan of his under the radar contributions since he first arrived. Too many were harsh on his 2023 season, given he was coming back from two consecutive shoulder recos. He’s got great awareness and intelligence when he delivers down the field and his weighted kicks to our leading forwards are as good as anyone in the team. He’s versatile between the arcs and also incredibly consistent come game day. Nearly always hits 20 + possessions and good for a goal per game. I can certainly see why the club gave him a contract extension. |

Here we go. Section 18.13 (b) - https://resources.afl.com.au/afl/document/2022/03/28/6d92ed7c-efc2-44dc-86bc-9fa1d9b338ad/2022-Laws-of-the-Game-Booklet.pdf
AFL will 100% back the Umpire in this.
Quote: | 18.13 OTHER
A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player who:
(a) Throws the football;
(b) hands the football to another Player;
(c)whilst in possession of the football, does not bounce or touch the football on the ground at least once every 15 metres, irrespective of whether such Player is running in a straight line or otherwise. For the purposes of this Law, a Player shall be deemed to be in possession of the football during the period when the Player kicks or handballs the football to themself and regains possession without the football touching the ground;
(d) engages in Time Wasting;
(e)makes unreasonable or unnecessary contact with an injured opposition Player;
(f) intentionally lifts a Player from the same Team to interfere with play;
(g)engages in misconduct;
(h) uses abusive, insulting, threatening or obscene language; or
(i) uses an obscene gesture. |
Also in section 1.1 Definitions:
Quote: |
Time Wasting: where a field Umpire is of the opinion that a Player is unnecessarily causing a delay in play | .
So the Umpire has made a decision Sullivan was time wasting? But the Unpire also said the rule was he had to hand the ball back to the umpire… this doesn’t sound very clear. _________________ Sydney Collingwood Supporters Club

Now I read that rule that sound more like in a play situation where a player doesn’t handball the ball and instead hands the ball to another player. _________________ Sydney Collingwood Supporters Club

Again, let’s look at is simply. It was not during a play-on sequence and it can’t be time wasting if the maggot blew the time off whistle and Naics handed the ball straight to the maggot. Go figure 🙃 _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️ |

Last night was confirmation that we are the best team in the AFL.
With so many players unavailable due to injury and also being a players down for the last quarter we fought hard against a full strength Fremantle side at their home ground.
The umpiring was lobsided in the last 10 minutes culminating in a free kick awarded on a technicality. Hard to complain about that free if it’s actually the rule. The rule that everyone does know is that if your tackle a player below the shoulders that it’s not a High Free Kick. IQ wa penalised in the dying minutes even though his tackle was legal. This lead to Freo kicking the point that levelled the scores. I replayed that incident 5 times and I still didn’t see any arm or hand above the opponents shoulder.
Much to like especially the effort and tackling. If we clean up our atrocious goal kicking we will be unstoppable. _________________ - Side By Side - |

^ Agree with most of what you say, but back in good old days, umpires had common sense, no way Jose would they have paid such a mickey mouse free, like that re Sullivan, at that stage of game,no bloody way. It gave Freo a massive lift in confidence and momentum, and killed ours, plus that other dodgy free, to appease the Perth crowd. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Last comment, to think some drop kick on here yesterday, pre game said our kids werent that good at all, had not done much. Our kids are great, proud of em, they have a real go, thanks to Fly and Josh Fraser. Oh, and to those media flogs who want extra time, fans dont want it, in all polls. We were spent, more injuries, Cox gone , extra time Freo would have won for sure, keep the draw and to hell with these flogs who want constant change to the game. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

I’m impressed how strong our structures are that we can have so many key players out and first timers in and we still come away winners. |

HS pay walled, was it timewasting or has to give to umpire directly?
the umpire NEVER tells the players the free kick was for time wasting |

I'm disappointed that we couldn't hang on for the win. That dodgy free kick turned the momentum and was the catalyst for the Dockers comeback. That goal, the crowd behind them, they grew an extra leg and we were running out of legs with Cox and Checkers on the bench and Pendles playing with one arm.
I reckon we've found 2 in HH and Richards, both look right up to the level. Allan looks like he needs to lift his level of urgency a bit, but was serviceable for a first gamer.
Dunno WTF we're going to do next week to replace Cox and Checkers. Begg and Steene are both injured, Reef should come in but we may have to play one or both of Kreuger or Ash. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
