Post subject: Go Woey! | |
|
I really don’t understand why some people seem to take great delight in bagging Woey (and I’m talking about at the footy and in particular some members that I sit near who drive me even more insane than I already am!). He didn’t have an overly consistent first half of the year but then neither did many of our players - but as he’s gotten to know his team mates and our style of play his consistency has definitely improved. He will never be the fastest player in the team but his second efforts and the number of times he goes in for the hard ball recently has been great.
In recent weeks he has made the effort to put himself in front of a marking pack to spoil or take a mark regardless of who has been barrelling down on top of him – he has run hard to spoil opponents marks – he’s put his body over the ball and into packs and doesn’t shirk tackles (he nearly had his head ripped off at one stage near the boundary line on Sat night but didn't give up the ball). As at Round 18 he is in the top 5 for a number of stats at our Club:
Kicks:
1. Buckley (334)
2. Woewodin (244)
3. Tarrant (228)
4. Licuria (207)
5. O’Bree (201)
Marks:
1. Tarrant (174)
2. Rocca (100)
3. Burns (93)
4. Woewodin (93)
5. Licuria (84)
Handballs:
1. Licuria (185)
2. Burns (172)
3. Buckley (134)
4. O’Bree (112)
5. Woewodin (105)
Tackles:
1. Buckley (60)
2. O’Bree (52)
3. Burns (51)
4. Licuria (46)
5. Fraser (45)
6. Rocca (45)
7. Woewodin (40)
Average rankings (as per Herald Sun):
1. Buckley (147)
2. Burns (128)
3. Tarrant (110)
4. Licuria (107)
5. Woewodin (103)
Although there’s always room for improvement, I think considering what he’s been through this year, on and off the field, he’s doing a great job – and he also looks much better in black and white stripes! GO WOEY!
GO PIES!

I agree, it really annoys me how people can bag a player of his skill and caliber, and the contributions he has made this year. _________________ practice makes perfect but perfect practice makes a champion-peter daicos |

totally agree Marg.
I think he's found his feet so to speak within the team now and the game plan. You only have to hear him speak to know he's a true pie boy now.
Two weeks ago he was so dominant in the first half he had 17 poss. by 1/2 time and against the cats he was fantastic. His second efforts are just great and he was throwing his body on the line akin to Rowdy it was fantastic.
He is OUR woey boy!!! |

woey is a champ, he put his body on the line 99% of the time when he goes in for the hard ball. His got used to the style of play we play not like melbourne |

He is a quality player... but when people give him votes just for being Woewodin, it is ridiculous. |

I think Woey gets bagged a lot because people expect him to be a superstar like he was at Melbourne.
At Melbourne he stood out like James Hirds ears!
He will never be the same player at Collingwood purely for the simple fact, we have a team of Superstars not indivduals! |

I have not watched the replay of last years GF...but my feelings at the game, were that we were one midfielder short
He has added an extra dimension to our midfield....he may well be the difference.....
He has certainly done the job to date, and no doubt he will step up a gear come September!

As I keep saying many people think because he won a brownlow he is equal to Buckley. Woey is doing the job he was picked up for. He has a big game this week against the BEARS and I hope he sticks it up a few followers who bag him each week. |

Woewodin definitely seems more settled atm.
I was one who bagged him a bit earlier in the year because I expected him to be harder at the ball, but he has been doing that beautifully lately.
Am very happy with his progress. |

woey needes time (and sitll needs more time) to change from teh melbourne "soft ball gets" type of game to the collingwood hard at it game. He's getting better and harder every week, chasing a bit more, but still not enough, and getting used to his teammates. He is going into packs harder and making contests more often. I don't think we will see his real worth till either (hopefully) finals or next year, after another preseason.
It's a different environment and a different attitude and it takes time to change, but he's progressing very nicely.
he still has the skills of a brownlow medalist. (se him kicking out from behinds, woey to burns to bucks = goal. GO PIES!!)

I'll be honest, I think Woey is a bloody good player, I think he's can often be very hard and the ball, and sometimes a little less so, but all in all he is a awsome player.
HOWEVER I hate seeing people sit there and talk about Wonderful he is, and all you hear is Woey Woey Woey, what about the otehr players, that have made something of themselves this season alone? _________________ "Carn the Pies" |

Yey! I couldn't agree more. I've been defending him since the start of the season saying to ppl that some have just too high expectations of him too soon. As long as he does what Micks asks, I'm sure the club would be very happy with him. Go Woey! _________________ Bec
