Pies banned from new training oval
5:57:17 PM Tue 27 April, 2004
Collingwood has been banned from its new training oval in Melbourne's Olympic Park precinct because of a dispute with the Melbourne and Olympic Park Trust over its plans to name the ground after club legend Bob Rose. President Eddie McGuire said the Pies will stick with plans to train at McHale Stadium until the lease comes into effect at its new home.

Gosh who would have thought that this was going to happen.

Ed finally gets the finishing touches on the Olympic Park precint and finally gets the place back on the map( since the trust were the ones who neglected the park in the first place)

Them all of the sudden the trust kick up a fuss about naming rights.

This is luderous and pathetic it seems these days once the Collingwood footy club gets on a good thing that is benfit for all every one seems to knock it down.

Is it me or is the world we live in becoming more and more selfish where its me me me.
As I said before just thank GOD for brilliant people like Ed.

What a JOKE!

I hope the public can see through this pettiness. They have had YEARS and YEARS to name the rundown ruins of Olympic Park after someone and now they all want their finger in the pie.

Wasn't the dog track good enough for them?

Eddie, get the workmen out of there and get them back to Vic Park - tell City of Yarra to just hand it over because really we are doing them a favour in the first place and tell everyone else to stick it!

IT IS US AGAINST THEM - DON'T MESS WITH THE BLACK AND WHITE.

The other thing is, our dear Bob Rose wasn't just a Collingwood legend. He was a standout community figure that embodies everything that sport is about. The Olympic Park Trust should shut up now before they make even a bigger embarassment of themselves.

Like come on - Princes Park is public land, I don't see any problem with Carlton naming their little piece of Melbourne, Optus Oval.

If the ground naming rights are forced to be removed, maybe Ed could get all the Lexus owners on to the ground to perform some circle work, then leave it for the Trust to clean up.

Imagine all the hybrids that would attend - Lexus WRX, Lexus EvoVIII, Lexus CV8, and maybe a Lexus Sprintcar. LOL

Lexus? Pffffffffftttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone tell em that the track at OP was nothing more than a warm up area and if they really want to honour an Olympian they want to rename the "G" "Betty Cuthbertson Oval"

How pathetic are the trust about this whole issue. This is the same trust that let the precint run into disrepair, and now want to complain about the naming of an oval. Personally, I'd prefer it it if the Lexus name did not appear on the oval, because I believe it is a bit tacky alongside the Bob Rose name. Having said that, if both have to go, then so be it. But seriously, what is the problem? They let the Glasshouse be renamed the Lexus Centre, so what is so special about the oval?

Exactly Joel. Its a brand new oval with no link to Olympics what-so-ever.

They let a dog track be built there before ffs, and the last time I checked that wasn't an Olympic sport. Neither, as far as I recall, was the dishlicker's grandstand named after anyone of Olympic repute.

How about "the Bob Rose Oval at Olympic Park"?

Yep, I said that a while back Steve. I thought it should be called Bob Rose Oval @ Olympic Park, and now it appears, naming it something like that could help prevent a stoush between CFC and the trust.

The issue is over the name of Lexus, not Bob Rose.

Actually Culprit, they want to name the ground in line with it's 'Olympic Heritage', so I guess they do have a problem with the Bob Rose bit.

Did Bob Rose go to the Olympics in 56? That's close enough for me.

Word I have is they do not like LEXUS being there they do not have an issue with Bob Rose; it's all about signage on public land.

Okay then. Ed was on SEN yesterday saying that they have a problem with the name, saying that they want to maintain the Olympic Heritage.

From The Age report:
Quote:
Club president Eddie McGuire said yesterday he was shocked that Melbourne and Olympic Park Trust chairman Alan Oxley intended to block plans to name the oval after the Collingwood legend, who died last July.

The trust believes the oval, which is on public land, should be named after an Olympian.

I heard Eddy say on the news last night that "Lexus" wasn't important, but that "Bob Rose" was.
